Believe Media has de-valued home

There has been alot of media attention in my road, the past couple of weeks and all for the wrong reasons.
I bought my house in 2007 for 106 thou, according to the survey it was "in a state of disrepair", but I liked it and has a good size garden. I've had all the windows/doors replaced with double glazing, loft insulated, new boiler and new electric circuit board, the previous one was dangerous. Some houses are full sale in my road and they have all bought there prices down. One has gone on the market for £80 thou and another which is nice and has been decorated nice with a conservertory has bought the price down to 97 thou.
Would I be able to claim compensation from the media and if I could, how do I go about it?

for what reason do you want to claim compensation though? you need grounds, not just its not worth as much as it was. are you selling it? remortgaging? if no then surely it makes no bit of difference.

house prices are down on what they were at their peak in 2007 everywhere. and whos to say the house that was on the market for £80k didnt have something wrong with it.

i dont know where you live, perhaps the houses in your area are a strange construction with yours being repaired and theres hasnt. you dont know the ins and outs having not seen survey reports on the other properties.
  • House prices have dropped in value everywhere since 2007. Only recently has some areas started a recovery. I would think this has more to do with it than the media.

You may have noticed that there is a recession going on at the moment, which has had the effect of lowering house prices (by about 15-20% from 2007 peak).
I don't think the adverse media reporting of your street will have had any effect whatsoever on the value of your home.

A lot of people also feel media was contributory to th rise in prices over tha last few years, yet noone shres their profits with th prducers of Location x3, Property Ladder et al.

I'm sorry for anyone selling at a loss, and I hope OP's is minimised, but, surely this is a risk of any sort of ownership...houses, shares, whatever?

OK providing this isnt a wind up - while i do feel sorry for you after spending so much doing it up - you bought at the very top of the biggest property bubble in history and wonder why after 2 years of falls it is worth less?. It has been mentioned on many property programmes that the only real way to add value to your home is to sell when the market is good and steadily increasing - its not.

The only option you have is to sit tight - you may be there for a long while yet before you can recoup the costs though but thats how the property game works. For every winner there will be losers, wether the market is climbing or falling.
