Buying the 3 day tickets actually works out quite expensive

I bought a 3 day ticket for £5, and i think that was much better value than buting those tickets that last for 90 minutes, etc.

I just got back from 3 nights in Prague just before Xmas.

I booked the hotel through https://www.praguehotels.co.uk and the service was excellent. They just book it for you and you pay when you arrive. We paid about £35 per night for us both inc. breakfast.

You can search hotels in the centre (Prague 1). All of the hotels in that area will be pretty central, as Prague isn't very big. I'd choose one near the old town square.

    Have a lovely time!
  • have a ctually got a trip coming up next week for a friends surprise hen do.. i really hope shes not reading this!!! :-X booked flights with jet2.com as Leeds/Bradford was best departure point. theyre really cheap, about £60pp rtn.also, i used that hotel comparison site to compare the accomodation...have booked the hotel:U Pava, seems central, or at least near the bridge. We were able to buy a three-day ticket for the tram in one of the Metro stations ( Underground )
A word of warning - make sure you punch the ticket ( time/date stamp ) the first time you are on a tram and that once only. I saw people punching their ticket each time they got on the tram and I did likewise ! It transpired that the ticket inspector checked to see that you were not using an expired ticket and expected to see one time and one date only. Mine had been over -punched several times. Not sure what she said exactly but threw me off !! "One stop! One stop!" I can still hear her. Other than that, Prague is a very fine place.

Haha Ljubljana may be cheap out there but getting there certainly isn't.

That's the thing, you need to go to a place that hasn't become a Brit holiday hotspot, which Prague is becoming.

Has anyone tried Riga? Sorry, i'm stealing this thread. Back to the Prague talk, I just hope all this British popularity and virtually every guy having his stag do there doesn't wreck the place & make it into a Magaluf/Faliraki. But I think that's already well on the way to happening

In the years I have been travelling to Prague I certainly have seen the prices rise. This is even more apparent since last May when they entered the EU.
However, my advise would be to venture off the main tourist streets for meals and drinks. It is much cheaper, usually much better and you get to feel you are meeting "real" people. Especially steer clear of the Irish bars. Full of other Brits getting bladdered on ridiculously expensive (by Czech standards) pivo.
There are still lots of ****head Brits on stag nights in Prague but many bars will not accept them anymore.

With regard to the tram and metro tickets, you can buy in bulk at the information centres. On a 12 crown ticket, you can travel for 1 hour peak times, 90 mins off peak. It is an integrated transport system. That is use the metro, get on a tram, even the funicular, on the same ticket. You only need to punch it once. That is when you first enter your mode of transport.

Do not be tempted to ride without a ticket. There are inspectors in normal clothing and they will slap a fine on you there and then. I think it is about 400 crowns.

A great place, just be careful on the tube for pickpockets. I've seen cameras nicked and the bags left on people's shoulders
Just keep everthing out of sight.
  • Try WWW.HOTELCONNECT.co.uk they currently have some deals on.

I agree with Centurion - get the bus from and to the airport to Devicka, it cost about 25p each (June 2004)There you can get the underground, or bus all over the city. Public transport is cheap and efficient.

We also stayed at a hotel in Dejvicka strangely called something like the Dejvicka Hotel. It's about half a mile on the other side of the castle. We walked up to the castle and walked around the castle area at night and saw the changing of the guard - obviously they do this during the day too, but at night it was rather romantic.

Once out of the city food and drink were much cheaper too - Beer 50p in Dejvicka.

    Have a great time.
