  • You are doing amazingly well! Yes the 10p plus egg was a smartprice Asda pancake mix - makes around 4-6 pancakes something like that. I've been using my very non-stick wok and it makes fab pancakes...!

Today We had chicken kievs for dinner £2 for 4 from Asda with chips and peas for dinner. For breakfast - porridge (smartprice oats 59p for around 1kg) and soup 40p each or noodles 10p each . Not bad!

That's really good. People have tried to persuade me to eat porridge, but its just wallpaper paste to me. One of our problems is DS shifts and also he was intolerant of dairy as a baby. He's outgrown in now, but doesn't like the taste/texture, which narrows down choices. He only likes certain pizza which have a tiny amount of cheese or home made.

    Hi, thanks for popping by.
At the moment there is banana tea bread cooking in the oven, together with a chicken 'thingy' which is cheapo chicken thighs with tomatoes and sweetcorn, overall cost around £2.50. Only cooking it now because oven is on.

Have got the tennis on in the background, love watching Federer play, hoping Andy Murray can pull something out of the hat, but TBH don't think he's going to do it.

    Where did yesterday go?
Have been busy lurking on everybody elses diaries and forgot to do mine!

Ah well, enjoyed the tennis, wasn't really supporting AM as find him a bit hard to like.

Worked all day yesterday, and had my Manager come out with me. Meant I had to do everything properly. Not that I don't but things like I have one call to make and then another only 150 yards up the road, so usually just get in the car and go. Had to do it properly, put documentation away in boot, mark off visit sheet, etc. etc. and then put seat belt on to drive a few doors away. Normally, I wait until I have a gap between visits and do the paperwork then, while having a cuppa (flask taken with me). Ah well, these things are sent to try us.

Since the £20 shopping at the weekend, have so far spent £9.76 and most of that was for DS soft drinks and stuff for work so he paid me back.

Have had chicken thingy for tea 2 nights running so fed up with that now, have put the rest in the freezer.

DS is working tonight so just me, so have done roasted veg.
Remains of a pack of roasted veg from Iceland - about 20p worth
Couple of tomatoes that were going a bit squish
    Peppers ditto
courgette - cos I couldn't think of anything else to do with it
a couple of potatoes from Mr M 30p essentials stuff, so all told about 60p for food and there will be plenty to have tomorrow.

Still got money in purse £20 note plus about a tenner in pound coins and some change so not doing too bad. May have to put a bit of petrol in car though.

    Back to frugalling.

Doing the "remains of the fridge contents" roasted with some olive oil, garlic and rosemary is one of my fave "skint" dishes......usually carried over to lunch the following day partnered with some couscous.......YUM!!!

Early last year I went to a lovely place in Spain, on a very relaxing holiday and that was one of the staples of the vegetarian diet. Would never have thought of it before that. And yes I will be having it with couscous tomorrow.

risotto is another excellent frugal meal, and one that I will be making today - it doesn't take much in terms of veg to make a yummy vegetable risotto, no need for any meat if there is none available, but even just a little bacon or a chopped up sausage gives enough for the meat eaters to feel that they are not missing out!

I've got some chorizo that needs eating up or throwing out today, so will be using that, along with the usual "fridge remains" and no one will be any the wiser as it feeds us for the next couple of days!

Thanks for that tip hypno,I love rice but never think to do it for myself. DS will eat it if pushed, with curry, but not as a meal, but could easily do it when he's on nights. Should heat up easily too.
When DS was small he would eat anything, but once he started having school dinners, the staple diet of nuggets and fish fingers put him off other stuff, its been a gradual process to introduce different things, he's now 22 so I'm getting there.
Today am taking some meals up to mum, clear some space out in my freezer, there's a limit to how much spag bol I can eat. Then into office to see what work there is for next week. Also the phone keeps ringing with agencies so there must be some jobs about so will do some digging.
