02 download speed.

Hey guys, got 20Mb 02 BB (LLU) 3 days back, and was told I had a potentital to get 19Mb.
After a couple of speed tests, over wifi with excellent signal strength I recorded around 9-10.5 Mbps, and around 16.7 Mbps using an ethernet cable.
Is there a reason why there I am not achieving closer to 19Mb/s, and why there is such a large discrepancy (a loss of 5-7.7 Mbps !!) in speeds between my Wifi and LAN speed when downloading?
My upload speed is actually quite good, I get atleast 1-1.2Mpbs so no complaints there!
My line is 440 - 660 metres from the exchange (direct and driving distance respectively).
I also only have one socket for that line, so the router is connected into the BT master socket (there is a also separate line in the premises, but has a different number, and is actually an extension for that line.)
These are my router stats:
DSL Connection
Link Information
Uptime: 0 days, 23:50:52
DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,338 / 20,927
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 18.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 8.0 / 17.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 7.5 / 6.5
Thanks for any input guys!

You are synchronising with the exchange at 1.338Mbps upload and 20.927Mbps download.
You will never achieve 20 Mbps data download due to overheads in the data. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I wish mine was that fast

Well, they would tell you that wouldn't they ?Hey guys, got 20Mb 02 BB (LLU) 3 days back, and was told I had a potentital to get 19Mb.

Yes, there is a reason, it's the length of wire between you and the exchange ! Your cable length could be a lot longer than you think.
What you are getting is excellent. I am on O2, about 700M from the exchange I get a max of 14 on my 16mbs service for less than £10 a month - happiness !0 -
Just an update. I downloaded a pretty large file as opposed to using a speed test, and it averaged at a speed of 17.9Mbps over a wired connection and 11 Mbps when I downloaded again using a Wifi.
I am actually really happy with the broadband speed now, but I don't understand why I lose so much speed when I switch to a wireless connection. The wireless card in my laptop is capable of receiving 54Mbps and the router is also capable or transmitting that. I've even placed the laptop a few cm's away and it is still a alot slower compared to when connecting the laptop up with a wire!
Is the wireless router that 02 provide a bit crap?
Moonrakers, is that speed you get over Wifi or using a wired ethernet connection? Are you using a broadband modem that 02 provided?
Oh yeah, I'm also paying just less than a tenner a month, happy days!Try to imagine nothing ever existed...0 -

I'm hardwired !
I started off using my Linksys router, mainly because the O2 one looked a bit cheap and nasty - but I did try it and am still using it now - it did actually seem a bit faster than the Linksys.
Overall, I am VERY impressed with O2 broadband :j0 -

Okay, that makes me feel better now. I was paranoid people were getting these speeds using Wifi.Try to imagine nothing ever existed...0
