    Thanks for all the replies.

I can't really fault the Avons (17 inch) apart from the wear rate but 9000 miles a pair equates to around 3 months driving for me at present, it gets a bit expensive ;)

So I started looking at Barums etc. Saving £20 a tyre is a tidy sum over 12 months but only if the performance is up to scratch!

I know I'm after the impossible but there's no harm in trying :)

The only thing budget about Falken 452's is the price, essentially a premium tyre not well known in UK.
Elsewhere in Europe where this Japanese brand is more well known they sell for not much less than Michelin etc.

    Cheers,

Just had a look on blackcircles & the Falken 452 is only £2.50 cheaper than the Avon... seems to back up what you are saying!

If I could get a few thousand miles more from the Falkens then the saving is worth the swap.

Of course the other way to save is get a job closer to home!!

Ah well I've got a couple of months or so before I need to decide.

What price if you go direct?

These 452's are popular with some performance car owners performing well on the track as well as providing decent comfort on road.

76 quid from there plus fitting so probably works out about the same as blackcircles although.... the next door neighbours son is a mobile tyre fitter :D I'm sure I could twist his arm LOL

That's the problem, I got a Saab 95 chipped to 290hp so decent tyres are a must. (seriously looking at having it re-chipped back to stock)

Yes I know that if you run a car like that you expect extra expense & I do but there's nothing wrong with trying to shave a few pennies if you can :)

    Ouch!
290bhp and front wheel drive. Not sure tyres can fix that, might need 4WD or RWD.
Didn't we have a thread on that somewhere recently...:rotfl:

What about having it remapped to reduce torque and power but may be keep any smoothing of power delivery you might be getting.

I seem to remember a thread along those lines :rotfl:& I agree, it's too much at times! Serves me right for being a smartass :)

The other problem is taking it back to stock is still 250hp but with a lot less torque, so I'm thinking maybe that's the answer?

I think it's a case of discuss the situation with the tuner and see what they suggest. The little I know about tuning tells me they can play around with torque and power levels to resolved some problems, more typically transmission rumble resulting from to much torque.

    ... or get a RWD 250bhp+ car :D;)

:) Maybe but the Saab is a lovely drive... just needs a little taming! I've never sat in a comfier seat, they have to be the worlds best!

I'll probably bite the bullet & try some Falkens next & see how they perform ;)
