Tyres. Budget or Premium brands?

The thing I've found is that some tyres that work well on one car in one size don't work nearly as well in another size on another car.
I had Falkens on a Rover 200 ex-rally car and they were brilliant. But that car weighed less than a ton. On a heavier car with bigger wheels it may not be so good and being a soft tyre it will wear out quicker.0 -
Considering that a good tyre place can sell a big name tyre for only slightly more than a no-name, then I tend to use the big name brands.
Cheap tyres can be a false economy. I was shocked at the low levels of grip in the tyres that came with my latest car when I bought it.Happy chappy0 -
In my opinion it really does depend on your vehicle/usage/driving style etc.
I use budget "Mohawk" tyres on my 75bhp front wheel drive car - having TOYO's on my car would give me no advantage.0 -
I use 17inch Pirelli 6000. Good all round performance.
Around £95 per corner.
Get around 10k on the fronts, and 20-25K on the rears. - big heavy diesel lump over the front and lots of country roads.
Have tried lesser known brands but find their performance degrades quickly. I want a tire that performs just as good as when new, to when it needs replacing.
As they say, only a few square inches between you and the road surface, it doesn't pay to go cheap, but sure there are bargains to be found, usually by buying direct.
Once you go up to 19's you can pay £250 a tyre for pirellis or other top brands.:eek:0 -

If they do, they don't live to tell the tale
It also depends on your driving style. If you drive carefully and brake in plenty of time then you don't need performance tyres imho0 -

Is that not called natural selection?0 -
Used Continentals the last few changes and pretty happy with them on the Mrs car. Getting about 18K on the fronts in a heavy diesel people carrier and the rears are the OE's at 56K, but think they will need replacing all around soon.
IMO cheap tyres can be a false economy plus where my families safety is concerned then I am not going to chance it with ditch finder specials0 -

Rubbish IMHO
Driving carefully doesn't always make a difference.
Some tyres are significantly better at clearing water than others which makes a lot of difference in an awkward situation.
Personally I don't skimp on tyres as it's all that connects you to the road.
I'd recommend Goodyear asymmetric if you can get them in your size (come top in most tyre reviews)0
