We are open and transparent with our customers, allowing them to make informed purchases with us, as we disclose our earnings for each policy in relation to both fees and commission, including any future fees that may apply during the life of the policy. Any fee that is charged, will be in-line with that agreement, and will match the written policy information that they receive in the post subsequently.

You continue to bring up the "commission" red herring, when the question raised in this thread (and discussed elsewhere on the net) is about your high admin fees for making changes to policies.

You say customers can make "informed" purchases as everything is known up front about your fees. (And justify your maximum charge by telling us "most" companies will charge £200 as a fee to deal with a change of vehicle - this difficult to swallow claim remains unsubstantiated!)

In fact you do not tell customers everything about your admin fee for dealing with changes, all you say about your admin fees is that customers will get one if they need to make changes:
Changes after cover is effected - A charge for this work will be applied - but will never exceed £100

Not quite sure about the quality of Sureterm's service as a whole, however in their defence they do deal with specialist classes of motor insurance like classics, kit cars etc which tend to have low premiums, sometimes under £100. Commission levels are relevant as they would be nowhere near able to sustain the business on commission alone with such low premiums, so relatively high admin fees are not really out of place. Not sure whether the disclosure of fees is compliant based on what I have read on this thread though.

Incredible. How do you manage this?

Thanks for the comments. I didn't state anything about admin charges but as you have touched on them i will share.

Total price i paid was £225.59

    Insurance £ 105.00
    Admin £100.59
Legal expenses £20 (which i never asked for it was just "on there" when i asked)

So it's basically 50/50, seems a bit of a rip off to me and it just added insult to all the problems i've had when i have paid them half of the money for admin. :(

For a new business premium that is a very very nice gross profit of circa £118, perhaps some of it is to compensate for the cost of the comparison site. I wonder if their admin fee is lower if you by pass the comparison site

I know this topic is old but I want to put it out there that my *personal* advice is to be weary of SureTerm. I did not have a good experience and got burned, by losing a £50 admin fee. and it wasnt even my fault. But to get their agents to understand this is like talking to a brick wall. Oh well you live and you learn. :)

Yep - this is one of the worst car insurance brokers ever.
Watch out from the hidden charges for cancellations - they claim they tell you that you won't be charged - however if you do decide to cancel even before your 14 days cooling off period you will get to pay 50 pounds. My recommendations is to have a proper go at them over the phone (IF YOU MANAGE TO GET HOLD OF THEM) and mention the FSA and how their service is not acceptable. I managed to drop the charges fee from 50 to 30 then a tenner then a big fat zero.
In addition, they might ask you WHY you want to cancel.. if you read their agreement, it does highlight that you can cancel with no questions asked.. However, thats far from the truth! they try to bully you into staying on!
    avoid them at ALL costs!!

I've just received a letter from Sureterm requesting my no claims discount and completed paperwork despite the fact that I sent them 3 weeks ago! I can see where this is going already and suspect that they will claim they've not received it...all the while they have my money and claim they are not liable until they have everything I've already sent them!

As you need to send the original renewal certificate from your previous insurer, they clearly know how long it will take to get a second ''original'' copy! They obviously know how to manage their risk and to maximise their cash income!

I feel like a free money lending service!

Watch this space for the outcome!

Not sure about sureterm direct at all...took out contents insurance late july and sent back all signed documents. They blame the post and are saying they never received it. They sent me a letter whilst I was away on holiday saying they haven't received it and will send me a recorded, signed for letter cancelling my policy if I don't send all documents back....Which they did. This was around the middle of August. I thought it was a bit odd so I cancelled my direct debit as they had already taken Augusts payment (even though they had told me it was cancelled) I thought nothing more until this morning when I received another letter saying once again if I don't send back documents they will send a recorded, signed for letter cancelling my policy (which surely is already cancelled?!!!) so confused now, they weren't particularly nice on the phone either. Think I might cancel it myself and go for a well known company, can't help but think if I'm getting problems already what will happen if I do need to make a claim??

I have had a motorhome policy with them for the last 2 years, the administration was a little lacking to be honest but when i made a claim they were great and I had no problems.

The claim was for about £6000 of my own doing, they took the details and arranged for one of their appointed loss adjusters to view the vehicle after my motorhome dealer provided a repair quote. They negotiated with the dealer over the price a little.

The MH is repaired and the dealer was paid by the insurance company. After the initial logging of the claim I have had very little contact from them and providing they are not overly high premium next year i'll stay with them.
