What do you call really really quickly?

We keep ours in an Asda tupperware type bucket and that keeps it long enough for the three of us to eat a loaf, it's OK for four days or more.

  • Usually by the next day or that evening if made first thing.

Thanks everyone, I shall go hunting for those bags. Do you think Poundland and the others will do them?

    Stay fresh bags are great.
You can also buy ones for veg and meat.

Apart from £ shop, I have seen them in Yorkshire Store and Home Bargains.

You could maybe ask in Wilkos and Poundstretcher.

I kept some sprouts in one of these bags from Christmas day to New Years day and they were as fresh coming out as the were when they went in. Brilliant invention.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I always slice the bread and freeze as soon as it cools down

If you put any fresh loaf in a plastic bag it will stay soft but not as fresh. French bread in the breadbin goes hard, but in a carrier stays soft.

I use these from lakeland. They are like the ones in the shops and you can put the bread in whilst it's still hot as it has tiny holes in them too. Remember though that you should never put your bread in the fridge and should keep it in a medium warm room. If you spray your bread with water and put it in the oven for a couple of minutes then it should perk up too!

I gave up making HM bread for exactly that reason - I only like very fresh bread so it was no good to me the day after baking :(

    Same here.

I like really fresh heavy, doughy bread. I found the HM bread texture too light for my tastes.

I was raised on Irish soda farl, but would only eat it fresh, my mum prefers it a day old and dry.
  • Slice mine and pop in a tuppaware container, keeps fresh for about 48 hours, but after that really only good as toast. Its because it hasn't got the *rubbish* ingredients in it to make it stay fresh longer.
