Got odd email from Ebay?!

I've just recieved an email from ebay about my seller status:

"We're writing to let you know that your account has fallen below our minimum standards for seller performance on eBay.co.uk or eBay.ie. As a consequence, your listings will receive lower standing in Best Match search results until minimum standards are met.

One or more of the following factors have contributed to this change:
  • Low Detailed Seller Ratings (1s and 2s)
  • Negative and neutral Feedback
  • Claims filed for items not as described or items not received"
I'm confused as i've got 173 feedbacks and no negatives, i've never had any claims made against me and i can't imagine people are giving me low stars when they leave feedback.

What is going to happen? Is this a scam?

If anyone could help i would be grateful.

Thanks

This is the result of the new changes and importance of star ratings.

Look on your expaned seller dashboard, that will show you where ebay think you have gone wrong.

personally to avoid a full suspensiomn, which is a possibility, I would suggest getting a few things up and listed with mega cheap postage and get them shipped same day with plenty of communication with your buyers.

Go look which stars are poor and target that area for some quick sales.

  • I've checked this and my star ratings are:
    Item as described 4.8/5.0
    Communication 4.7/5.0
    Dispatch time 4.4/5.0
    P&P charges 4.5/5.0

I've have lots of items listed at the moment with lots of them starting at 99p. The auctions end tomorrow so as long as i get payment i can post these on Monday.

Dispatch time is your main problem, P+P needs to be addressed as well. Ebay don't want you to have less than 4.6 for anything.
Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

  • Ok well should be able to sort out the dispatch time with the latest items i'm selling and if i find i've charged too much p&p will refund to seller which will hopefully get the p&p rating up.

Thanks for the help guys - ebay ain't half strict!!

    Hi

If you look at your seller dashboard, mentioned above, it updates daily to show how you are rated in all 4 sections. In my experience the lowest are usually the last two as buyers have high expectations of receiving items quickly and with cheap postage.

New minimum standards for all sellerss.gifs.gif

To improve service standards and provide the criteria for the Top-rated seller status, there will be an additional DSR measure. Along with average DSRs, the number of 1 and 2 star ratings will also be counted. This is because 1 and 2 star ratings are the clearest indication that a buyer has had a bad shopping experience.
    • From 1st October 2009 all eBay sellers (including PowerSellers) will need to keep their number of transactions from the UK and Ireland with DSRs of 1 and 2 for item description below 3%. For communication, dispatch time, and P&P charges we’ll be looking for no more than 4% of transactions with DSRs of 1 and 2.
    • If a seller’s rate of 1s and 2s goes over these maximums they’ll get lowered placements in searches and may even face limits on selling activity until their ratings improve.
PowerSeller Programme eligibility is reviewed every month. To remain PowerSellers, members must:
    • Maintain the minimum average monthly sales amount for your PowerSeller level
    • Maintain a 98% positive total Feedback rating
    • Maintain a minimum score of 4.6 in all four DSR categories
    • Maintain an account in good financial standing
    • Comply with all eBay selling policies and the eBay User agreement, not breaching any policies in a 90-day period
You can track your Feedback performance including your low DSR scores (1s and 2s) in the Seller Dashboard. There you will also get insights about the specific business practices that are hurting or helping your DSRs.

There is also a top rated seller iconTrsMini.gifpsIcon_50x25.gif logo which will take over from the powerseller from January. It is already showing for 15% of powersellers who meet the criteria set by ebay.

I hope that this helps. The good thing is that they are going to remove the postage times rating while the postal strike is on, from 18th October.
  • I did not realize that e-bay were this strict, i have 4.6 for postage costs which makes me angry as i weigh my items and only charge 10p for packaging, also some of my items have been pick up only which means i dont get any stars for postage time or charges.

    Hi

I sell some items abroad and find that they are the ones who give the low ratings as they expect items to be delivered within a week and do not understand the postage costs. If you take Paypal's advice then you send items by Airsure or International Signed for but this adds £4 to the cost and not many people are willing to pay the extra.

I do agree that they should monitor the costs though as I recently wanted to buy something that they were charging £25 by standard parcels when I worked out that it would cost £8. When I questioned it the seller was quite abusive.

Ebay do not really advise you to use tracking, the only reason a few sellers do it on all their items is because they distrust buyers and assume that buyers will make false claims for item not received if they don't.

None of my items, unless they are over £39 go tracked, that means I can make other sellers look very expensive if they see me with standard airmail at say £1.68 but where my competitors are charging £6.18 for airsure.
Even with that though my business account has 4.8 stars for p and p, but my private aco!!!! has just crept to 4.9 .

Obviously though I am going to lose my advantage in the book section once the free p and P comes in.

Incidentally, if you go to your expanded seller dashboard and scroll down you can actually order free reports that show you which category of buyer has marked you down, that way you can see if it is the UK or non UK buyers affecting you.

whoops sorry, I forgot I promised someone to repost the instruction about the expanded seller dashboard in case users weren't sure where to find it.

Log safely into ebay and look on your selling page. On the top you have three tabs one of which is 'account' hover your mouse on that (don't click) and you get a drop down box from which you choose 'seller dashboard'.

You get the seller detailed ratings then at the top of that page, you don't want any 1 or 2 * in that box at all, and it pays to check your 12 months status as well. It also clearly shows your performance and policy compliance.

Fiddle about in there as there are some great statistics, you can even see a month on month star chart for instance which is how some smaller sellers can work out how left poor stars. If you click on reports you can order a variety of things that will be there for you when you next check.

  • Always keep in mind though that people arent always truthfull or fair when leaving DSR's as we have had people mark us down for postage charges when we have free shipping on everything, sometimes you just cant do anything about it
