Always keep in mind though that people arent always truthfull or fair when leaving DSR's as we have had people mark us down for postage charges when we have free shipping on everything, sometimes you just cant do anything about it
A lot of buyers won't know what to leave when it comes to free P+P (something DVD sellers will attest to), so they leave 3. Free P+P items really should be an auto 5*, but ebay don't seem to realise that...

Ebay do not really advise you to use tracking, the only reason a few sellers do it on all their items is because they distrust buyers and assume that buyers will make false claims for item not received if they don't.

None of my items, unless they are over £39 go tracked, that means I can make other sellers look very expensive if they see me with standard airmail at say £1.68 but where my competitors are charging £6.18 for airsure.
Even with that though my business account has 4.8 stars for p and p, but my private aco!!!! has just crept to 4.9 .

Obviously though I am going to lose my advantage in the book section once the free p and P comes in.

Incidentally, if you go to your expanded seller dashboard and scroll down you can actually order free reports that show you which category of buyer has marked you down, that way you can see if it is the UK or non UK buyers affecting you.

It seems odd that Ebay and Paypal don't agree. When I had 3 items go missing last Christmas I was told by Paypal that the only way that I could prove my case of posting was if I used airsure or signed for and I should always use these in future but buyers just don't want to pay the extra as they will get the item refunded in their favour anyway.

The report that I ordered showed that it was the international buyers who were marking me down, even though I only add 30p for packaging. I had one buyer, in Malta, who was annoyed when an item hadn't arrived after 5 days and I had told them about the postal strikes! I still have 7.6 & 7.4 so it is ok, and my topseller logo, but it dropped to 6.7 a couple of days ago which was worrying.

If I could cut them out, I would, but they provide about 25% of my sales.

Don't misunderstand what you are being told by paypal, that's why I said some sellers prefer to use tracking because they don't trust their buyers not to make false claims.

If you lose an item in the post then paypal will always refund the buyer, that doesn't matter if you have sent item tracked or not, if you can't show it was delivered then you lose your money. However items up to £39 are covered against loss both in the UK and overseas and you can reclaim your losses from RM with a COP. (There are some exclusions notably cash and tickets).

So therefore the only reason anyone would use tracking is to stop a false claim for item not received.

Personally I trust my buyers slightly more than I trust RM to deliver all my goods, so I am happy to use untracked for all items up to £39. That model of selling would not suit everyone as some sellers do have a general mistrust of buyers and choose to use signed for for their own protection against scammers. Personally if i thought everyone was out to get me I wouldn't sell on ebay or Amazon any longer, but again that is my personal view.

It is also worth remembering that overseas signed for options whilst expensive do not always guarantee tracking to delivery, so if you get a scammer for a buyer you would lose the claim anyway.

And worse still if RM can see from their tracking that it has left the UK safely they may be less likely to pay out for loss than with an untracked service.

    Hi

I do agree that they should monitor the costs though as I recently wanted to buy something that they were charging £25 by standard parcels when I worked out that it would cost £8. When I questioned it the seller was quite abusive.

I woudl have been abusive to you too.

You dont have to buy it, all the information is on the item page for you to decide if you want it.

Personally I think its a bit cheeky to question a seller on their postage charges etc; If you object, dont buy it. Simple.
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

WE are back full circle now . Many if not most buyers would at the very least hit the stars badly for such an excessive mark up, those bad stars now affect the seller standing a lot and can even lead to suspension.

It seems clear that your postage and packaging scores are the problem.

Ebay is encouraging buyers to expect postage to be very close to what it actually cost to post as they want to make more money off sellers (in final value fees and listing fees) and are trying to stamp out the practice of sellers adding a bit of profit to the postage so they can list at a lower price.

I also have this problem though I am currenty just within the allowed range of 1 and 2* ratings because I don't have functioning kitchen scales at the moment and estimate postage. I still have stuff to sell on Ebay but can't buy scales as I'm trying to get rid of almost everything I own before going travelling.

You can get scales for less than £2 at Asda, surely at that price they'll pay for themselves quickly? Then you can just drop them into a charity shop when you're done.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
