Which Supermarket?

Options
Which supermarket is best to shop at?

We currently shop at Asda, but I have been annoyed with them over the past few weeks as they have not stocked up properly and also their prices vary from store to store

The biggest example of this is the Telford branch sell cherries at £6.47 a KG whilst the Shrewsbury branch sell them at £8.78 a KG

We shop in Shrewsbury and I cannot believe the price difference on some of their products

Considering swapping to Tesco but not sure

I used to shop in asda as i hated the fact they stopped stocking a lot of baby food/milk.

We have been going to tesco ever since and while their range is bigger they are i find more expensive even with their deals.

Now my little one is off baby milk now we have started to go back to asda!
    As it is cheaper.

Don't have any experience with the other supermarkets although we also go to costco:j

Aldi is by far my favourite, with top ups at Sainsburys/Asda for things I can't get in Aldi.

I find Iceland to be the best supermarket around. Theres an unbelieveable amount of BOGOF's there, the veggies are cheap and so is the meat. I spend £43 on each shopping visit no matter where I go and I always have a full trolley when at Iceland and half a trolley everywhere else.

I use Tesco but I saw a post earlier which highlighted what I've noticed too - that you have to watch their prices.

One example I've had is that I buy herbal teabags and often it is cheaper to buy two boxes of 20 than it is to buy one box of 40. They do have a pretty good range of stuff though and the prices are ok. I would honestly recommend, if you can, getting things like your meat from the butcher (better quality and often a lot cheaper), vegetables from the local market, a greengrocer or a box delivery, and just save Tesco for other essentials such as washing powder etc.

We also recently found that our local delicatessen is loads cheaper than Tesco on things like parma ham, certain cheeses and so on, and it's all freshly sliced right in front of you. I guess prices may vary, but certainly worth a look.

Not so much my local butcher, but thinking of paying a visit to Mums local butcher as they do three big trays of meat for £5. Looking at saving as much as we can without compromising on quality, so will definately go to the markets, finding that now the warmer weather is approaching a lot of supermarkets are putting the price of fruit up like plums up from 98p to £1.35

IMHO all supermarkets are about the same. If you rotate you will get to see a range of bargains from each of them :)

This is also true at Asda - a big jar of Dolmio is £1 and a small jar about £1.20 but on offer for two for a pound! Talk about making it difficult for the consumer!

I'm lucky enough to have both Asda and Tesco in my local shopping centre so I usually flit between both of them buying what's on offer that week.

Bunnie, these older threads might help you:

is asda meant to be cheaper than tesco??

    Watch out for Tesco's Value

Does anybody else find tesco's fruit and vegtable produce poor?

I usually vary where I go. I visit Morrisons and Tesco the most lately.

I rotate them every fortnight -

None locally sell ALL the cleaning products I like which p*****s me off cos its' a small list -
    ecover bleach (for nappies)
    ecover washing up liquid
    stardrops
zoflora (must be the flowershop one as I luv this scent in the 45p bottle)
It'd be lovely to be able to get them all in the same place, just for the sake of my memory.

None of them match the market for fruit and veg, and we eat loads.
