you can change chemist at any time! my local one has this bad habit of accepting prescriptions then telling you they dont have enough in stock and you will have to come back next day! I have got so fed up of it as its a repeat prescription i usually dont bother with them and take it into boots in town. will only go into local chemist now if i really cant go into town.0

Oh calm down. I travel a lot with work, and I need essential medication - it's just a being on the ball and never leaving anything to chance. I can't afford to make medicine mistakes.
I did read the post, and that point is nonsense. If the pharmacy cannot fill the entire prescription you are perfectly entitled to take your prescription elsewhere. The OP didn't need to accept the partial prescription, and is actually at fault for doing so.
Obviously not, but it's sound advice for the future, which is the point of these forums.
No indication at all that I wouldn't get the rest of the prescription the following day. And even though I hadn't touched the tablets they'd given me, they refused then to take those tablets back and return the prescription so I COULD go elsewhere.
I do wish people like you wouldn't be so smug.0 -
I had no idea I didn't have to accept the partial prescription! How does that make me at fault?? The pharmacist said that amount was all they had, bagged it up for me and said I'd get the rest tomorrow. No two ways about it. I'd certainly have gone elsewhere if I'd known the hassle it would cause me going there.

On occasion I have asked for my prescription back if they dont have item in stock, but if they have 'stamped it' and therefore 'processed it' in some way, you can not simply take it back and go somewhere else, as it looks like the meds have already been dispensed, so another pharmacy is unlikely to accept the prescription.
If the pharmacy only had 16 tablets, they should really have given the OP the option of going somewhere else with it really, before dispensing.0 -
Thanks lindos90...glad YOU don't think I was at fault!!!!!!!!0

just a quick comment I am medicine co-ordinator for our GP practice, I get report weekly from Pharmacy to inform us of manufacter delays or low stock on prescription medication it helps our practice to be aware, but is our choice and time consuming, I think it helps our pts, if the medication is on delay I can find the local pharmacy who has adequate stock and inform pt before they have the script dispensed or advice them of the delay and if a substitute has been given.I must add this is something I have looked at in length and happens on a regular basis, I know it doesnt answer or help the OP I just wanted to comment0

You definitely aren't at fault - I read your post, unfortunately some people who replied obviously didn't.
The pharmacy must get paid pretty well for dispensing as I often used to experience the same sort of problem. They never tell you before they dispense the items that they don't have enough, they simply present you with an 'items owing' slip and expect you to do the running around . This happened so frequently that I got into the habit of asking them to check that they had enough supplies before I would sign the prescription. Then at least I had the choice of going elsewhere.
Luckily although I'm on a lot of meds, I've now subscribed to a pick up and delivery service with a local pharmacy. I phone them to tell them when my script will be ready at the surgery (usually within 48 hours) and at the same time I tell them the drugs I'll be needing. They pick up the script and drop off the meds for me at home. This way they always make sure they have supplies - as after all, they don't want to have to keep coming round with the items owed.
I use morphine patches and these are nearly always out of stock, since they only keep limited amounts in the safe. My doc has said that I could change to methadone as an alternative, so maybe I should since it seems to be in ample supply :rotfl:.Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

This happened to my dad. He literally shattered his ankle and was taken into hospital. They discovered dangerously high blood pressure and was prescribed numerous pills.
Went to Boots for this particular batch of pills (3 BP pills in 1) but they didn't have them, they did have all 3 pills seperatley but wouldn't give us them with out a new prescription. Fair enough I suppose but her (the pharmicist {sic}) parting comment was "just remember he really does need these, he'll die without them"
Its the first time Ive ever seen my mother so angry she could smack someone.0 -
my beef with the pharmacy was that I was picking up asthma drugs (ventolin and serotide) which are commonly prescribed! also as my son was known asthmatic and had been for years - we suddenly had a problem with them being 'not in stock' ?????? this coincided with a change in management of pharmacy and the chemist - who by now after over ten years - actually came out to aplogise and suggest i write to manager! didnt do any good - so i went over to town and got them from boots. my son is now 24 and regularly has probs with this pharmacy as his consultant will keep giving him drugs they have never heard of!! in an attempt to control his asthma!0

It makes you at fault for not being aware of your own rights. It's not the fault of the pharmacy as they've done nothing wrong.
They obviously can't accept dispensed medicines back again in case you've tampered with them in someway.
As others have pointed out to you; if they don't have your complete prescription then walk away.Legal team on standby0
