  • I agree with Emmel, I have had three weeks of bother trying to get some steriods and not one chemist had them, apparently a problem with supplier.. In the end Boots managed to order some, but I always ask the chemist to check if they have them... seems like a bit of a problem these suppliers we're not the only ones having probs trying to get our tablets.. wonder whats up?
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

It's really maddening though, isn't it?

Funny how they always have the methadone in stock for the smackheads...!!

But then they'd just smash the place up if it wasn't available for them!!

I agree that it's nothing to do with surgery.

I don't see the issue here - if one pharmacist is out of stock then visit another. Best bet is to visit a pharmacy within a hospital as they typically have greater stocks of everything.

If your local pharmacy is out of stock they should have the technology to tell you where it is in stock elsewhere.

If it's essential medication then I would have planned ahead and not left it until days before a trip to restock.

Again, if it's essential are you are unable to travel to a different pharmacy then organise yourself a medicine-buddy who'll travel to get your prescription in the event that you can't (either due to poor health or lack of transport)

Finally, any pharmacy will give you an emergency prescription for essential medications providing you tell them your doctors name and the address of your surgery (ie you could get a restock while away without a prescription, assuming the medication genuinely is essential).

Aren't you clever. Obviously you have never ever made a mistake and waited a bit long to do something, and anyway, some doctors give prescriptions dated in the future - so they couldn't put them in early, until the correct date.

You obviously didn't read her post as well - she CAN'T go to another pharmacy, because they won't give her the prescription back. So yes, there is an issue. It's all very well saying she can set up a medical buddy - that doesn't solve her problem now.

Our chemist is always making mistakes ,wish we could change. The last time was a couple of weeks ago when someone's meds were forgotten. One of my meds seems to need a week's notice before it is dispensed but I doubt it's that rare a medicine. My surgery have blamed my chemist in the past , the chemist have blamed the surgery. I've given up trying to find out why the mistakes happen and try to remain calm:rolleyes:

Sorry - not trying to be a smartypants if you are limited in your options and that's why you're stuck with only one, but if not then you should be able to present a prescription at a range of local pharmacies, so if you aren't happy with the one nearest you, then it might be worth trying another or asking if your surgery has an arrangement with any other local pharmacies.

Oh calm down. I travel a lot with work, and I need essential medication - it's just a being on the ball and never leaving anything to chance. I can't afford to make medicine mistakes.

I did read the post, and that point is nonsense. If the pharmacy cannot fill the entire prescription you are perfectly entitled to take your prescription elsewhere. The OP didn't need to accept the partial prescription, and is actually at fault for doing so.

Obviously not, but it's sound advice for the future, which is the point of these forums.

Always have this with my pills, think they either use them a lot or barely at all, which is why they have low stock

In some pharmacies you can set up a service to let them manage the prescription. They contact the doctor on your behalf when the repeat is due and then text when it's ready for collection.

I always have to go back the next day because they only ever have half my prescription in... so will be trying the service next time!

I used to need a repeat prescription for my son, it was an unusual medicine, (was initially prescribed via the hospital) and often found it was not in stock when we had a repeat prescriptions via the GP.

The pharmacy would always get the medicine by ordering it from another branch, and always within 48hours.

We then agreed that I could call the pharmacy the day I submitted the prescription for signing at the GPs, then that gave the pharmacy a couple of days to get it, then when I collected the prescription from the GP and took it to the pharmacy, the medicine was ready and waiting for me!

Some people, and some 'systems' are more helpful than others though, and depends if your pharmacy are willing to do this for you, to avoid this happening again.

Hope you get things sorted for the weekend.

I do this as well, as even though my prescriptions are not rare, I need specific ones that are not bulked out with milk.
