Royal Mail national strike looms for Christmas

Royal Mail was on last night reported to have lost a £25 million contract with Amazon, its second largest customer, as a national strike looms over the crucial Christmas period.
The struggling company, which has been buffeted by a series of wildcat strikes since July, could suffer more cancellations if its service continues to be disrupted.
With a national strike announcement expected from the Communication Workers Union today, customers are increasingly worried about the reliability of Royal Mail.
In the past few months, a series of local strikes has led to backlogs of undelivered mail.

More shocking if you said royal mail were not on strike this Christmas.
Time to get tough.
Sack anyone who strikes, there are plenty who want jobs out there. That should test thire resolve.0 -
A rep was on the radio this morning and said that they feel SO passionate about the Royal Mail and don't want to see it destroyed by the management......
..........
....so they have arranged a three week strike on the back of wild cats strikes and also make a point of not delivering parcels or packages when they should as a means of 'protecting' what they feel so passionate about.
:rolleyes:Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -
Great news, think of all the money you`ll save on stamps posting cards to people you don`t really like.
And of course,postie`s Christmas tip.0 -

Someone told me recently that the unions had taken the postal workers out on strike on and off since July.
I was totally surprised. Has anyone really noticed? Does anyone really care? It's a classic example of a union in the public sector (and, let's face it, where else do unions still remain) thinking it has some kind of power when, in reality, it's totally irrelevant.
I literally can't remember the last time I posted anything. And apart from bank statements (who needs them anymore too, with online banking), I'm struggling to remember the last thing that fell on my doormat that wasn't some crappy unsolicited advertising.0 -
Perhaps we should call the Royal mail the Royal Snail?0

Totally agree that there are plenty of people out there who want jobs. Whether they would want work for Royal Mail is another issue. All of the posties I joined with are on one hour contracts. We just wait by the phone each morning to see if there is any work.Sack anyone who strikes, there are plenty who want jobs out there
Sometimes I get 10 hours work a week, sometimes 30. This is how Royal Mail employ staff. When I get work it is usually only for 4 hours pay in a day. I am expected to finish off sorting then deliver all the mail, parcels and door to door leaflets in my own car within those 4 hours.
When I have complained I have been told by a manager 'there are plenty who want jobs out there'.
So why do I still work there? There are no other jobs where I live. At 50+ I am on the South Wales scrapheap and Royal mail take full advantage of the current employment climate.0 -

Yes some check payments have taken over a week to come through from some areas.
I prefer £100K in the bank than sitting in a post bag some where.0 -

A couple of years ago, a Senator died who was the oldest in the House. He was first involved in politics during a strike. He was asked how he would resolve it.
"That's simple", he said, "draft them all into the army and order them to work. If they refuse then shoot 'em for insubordination"!
I hear the bin men in Leeds have been on strike for the last few weeks too. Has anyone noticed yet? (link)0
