As well as the excellent advice given by basmic above, perhaps you could teach your friend the importance of concentrating on paying the essentials first (like the leccy) before splashing out on luxuries (like mobile phones)!

I'll lay odds that this blessed woman has done some of the following:

    Smoked
    Done drugs
    Drunk alcohol
    Bought scratch or lottery tickets
Bought some rubbish on a catalogue
    Sent meaningless text messages
Phoned someone just around the corner
    Bought prepared food
    Gone out for an evening
    Has Sky
    Has any PSP etc.

I could go on and on.

A single parent with one kid can get their rent paid, £15 a week on top of their rent for free, £64.30 income support, £54.31 tax credits and £20 child benefit. So there is over £150 a week. Another 2 kids means around another £26.40 or so in child benefit plus more tax credits. I bet she is probably near £1000 a month (entitled to came to £249.93 a week before the £15 a week rent uplift.)

If you cannot pay your bills on £1000 a month or more of free money then I don't know what to say.

Well, heaven forbid that anyone on benefits should go out for an evening or make a phone call and obviously if she's a single parent she must be drinking and/or taking drugs:rolleyes: Sometimes I don't know why people bother coming on here for help at all....

Even £5 per month on a mobile (which is your assumption) is £60 per year spent on that luxury, whilst not paying the essential i.e. the leccy bill.

Good advice was given as early as post#2 and by me in post#8, but I was accused of being a troll!

What help have you given the OP regarding the problem described?

!!!!!! i was not slating her i used sky as an example i was just pointing something out like i did in an earlier reply that if she spoke to the company and made small regular payment they would help her . they DON'T want to cut people offI was once told if you are having trouble paying someone you are best making small regular payments even £1 a week as when it goes to court it shows you are still trying to pay and as they are recieving somthing it goes in your favour

Saying nothing is better than kicking someone when they are down.

I have a mobile that I paid 5 quid credit on 3 months ago..and it's still there apart from a couple of quid, hardly a massive expense would you say? A woman alone with kids that could get sick who can't afford a LL probably would feel that value for money. essential even.

The damn meter doesn't belong to either the LL, the customer or the supplier....it varies from region to region who owns it. It could one of many companies.

Usually the company visits the premises to survey prior to fitting a pre pay meter...so maybe the LL got involved and interfered there? I had a mix up where I missed letters when my Mum dies..the guy who came to survey sorted it all out on his mobile (he was a very rich man obviously having one)....right there and then with the supplier.

I'm 99% sure he told me that the reason they visit was partly to ensure that the person involved wasn't elderly or had kids...obvioulsy a vulnerable group.

Amazing how such a large proportion of replies on this thread are clever dicks crowing over an unfortunate person who can't even post herself (luckily as it happens) ...what a way to get your kicks eh?

Totally out of order. You have absolutely no evidence to back up anything you have written. In fact, I'd say this is worthy of reporting as abuse. Heck, accusing someone of having/had a drug/alcohol problem (which is effectively what you've done) could be construed as libellous. This forum has rules about how what you can and cannot post. I suggest you look them up.
  • no one mentioned the cost of..

    school uniforms
    school trips
    bus fares
    other school equipment....

and can they legally `break in` to your house....
i dont think they can, even a baliff cant do that !!!

however she must have had previous letters and warnings
