Hello,i don't know to whom else to turn for advice.I have been Virgin customer for two months but i'ts been nothing but trouble.
My wireless connection just keep dropping off ,the router located up stairs next to computer and connected to it via ethernet cable, which is working fine. But my laptop which im using down stairs keep dropping wireless connection it only last a day,two if im lucky. To get it working again i have to go to the main computer, change channel in the router(there is 13) just to get it working for one day again..I've gone through every channel 3 times now,oh and even been sent a new router, been on the phone to the technical support team numerous amount of time gone through what seems to be every option but the problem is still there..My previous provider was Orange and i've never ever had any problem i've just needed to connect it once and the wireless signal was always there every time i've turned laptop on..But with Virgin i firstly have to choose my network from the list and then connect with my fingers crossed hoping that i will be able to do so..Sorry for a such a long post..Im really frustrated and just need some advice..Thanks

You should be able to set it to connect automatically when in range, which operating system, and which wireless client software are you using?
Have a look at what channels other users in the vicinity are using, usually 1 6 or 11 (google inssider to find out), and avoid them.
If none of that works, try adjusting the aerial assuming the router has an external one.
Thanks for your reply,
on computer is XP on laptop is Vista i dont know what wireless client software is
.
I've tried every channel from 1 to 13 three times but none of them works for me.
When im connecting to channel putting my passphrase it asking me to connect automaticly whn in range and save this network as default..i say yes .But then it's still dropping signal..I've tried adjusting aerial as well..Good Luck Everyone!:beer:0 -

I've changed over from 1 today because connection has dropped..I just confuded because i cant understand why is my old livebox been working fine and with netgear i've got such a grief.I've thought maybe it's not compatible with vistas adaptor or the router is to weak..Don't know..

I don't know if i looked in the right place but setting of the wireless card/adaptor says
,,Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power,, and that is what selected..
Another option is ,,allow this device to wake the computer,,

I know it may sound weird but i've can't find that option..
control panel->system and maitenance->power options-> and then choices
change battery settings;require a password when the computer wakes;change what the power buttons do;change when the computer sleeps..That's all i can't seems to be find advanced setting there..
