And the weird thing is that people on here don't actually sit here saying prices will go up. But they seem to want to argue us into making a point we're not making.

I'd have agreed with that before, but I actually had first hand experience of this on my brief foray over there today! I think possibly that those that choose to link to threads by 'muppets' on MSE, create a false impression of what MSE is about in the minds of those that haven't spent much time here

Well after reading the linked post, i think they're all off their rocker.

Really i'm guessing they have sold their house a year or two ago and deepdown realise what a huge mistake they've made and are now so badly hopefully for a houseprice they believe it themselves. You have to feel sorry for them really.
A bargain is only a bargain if you would have brought it anyway!

Perhaps it's time for a proper expansion of house-building. This country does have vast amounts of open land that could be built on. I think the figures are round about 90% of the population living on 10% of the land. Obviously we can't build houses forever, but maybe if we got ourselves a competent government we wouldn't need to.
The thing is we don’t actually need to build on green sites, there are plenty of brown sites out there but its cheaper to build on the green land. If your walmart you can actually make money off the government by destroying green land forever, but that’s another story.

I doubt that, Pretty much every other investment has done better than houses in the last few years.

If anything I think for some people on there, it's because they sold their houses too early and in some cases could have had more if they had waited.

There are a number of indications that a partial crash is already upon us. I know of a number of blocks of flats, for example, where prices are down 30% to 40% over the past two years.

I find myself wondering why mortgage lenders are so desperate to keep things going. Nationwide are relaxing their criteria to allow people who are acknowledge credit risks to get mortgages at the same time they are issuing warnings about increasing interest rates affecting the over-extended punter. That kind of mixed message is very hard to read.

I don't think this holds water; if someone decided to sell their house three years ago and not buy another, they'd be smart enough to invest the money, and a number of investments have outstripped house price rises since then.

The vibe I get from them is not that they're greedy, but quite the opposite; they just want houses to be reasonably priced and seen as somewhere to live, rather than a vehicle for making money you haven't worked for. My concern is for the next generation; I really don't like the idea that if you haven't bought yet you never will, as it leads to the obvious conclusion that as time goes on more and more of the population will be paying rent to landlords who've done nothing to deserve the cash other than be in the right place at the right time. Gosh, you'd almost think I had some socialist leanings. Where's that Daily Mail gone; that'll fix me up!

So rather than just staying put and using it as somewhere to live rather than a money making vehicle they chose to sell a house at what they preceived to be a peak maximising their profit. How honourable. Helping people get on/move up the ladder through self sacrifice....;)
