When are you most likely to impulse buy?

I impulse buy food, presents, handbags, presents etc........... and i can't work out what makes me do it
i have been doing alot less often lately and only buying small/cheap things but still i am buying things.
i do it when i'm feeling good about money, when i feel i'm not doing so well and to keep up with friends.
I am going to try different ways of combating this. The first method i will try is having my weekly 'spends' at the start of the week and not taking any more cash out. Then if i can save on the little bits and bobs i would usually treat myself to, i can put leftover money towards something bigger or put it back into the bank for debt repayments.
This method will be interesting for me as cash burns a hole in my pocket!Official DFW Nerd Club member no. 0190 -

I think mine is more closely linked to my emotions.
I'm a piscean so everything in my life is attached emotionally. I find its when Im bored,or lonely (haven't got many friends you see) feeling down.

My flashpoint is payday. I figure that I deserve an ickle pressie for working so hard all month.
This inevitably results in one day of  followed by 30 days of :wall:.
This month is going to be different. I'm still getting my ickle pressie for working so hard all month but it's going to be a slow cooker instead of fancy new shoes! Thereby saving oodles of dosh by making many wholesome casseroles which will be ready when I arrive home. :T:eek: What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -
I am very good as I don't have any money so can't spend it.
I have found not carrying cash is a good way not spend anything. I do carry my cards or did carry my credit cards. But as I don't know the pin numbers I can;t spend in the shops.
I can spend on the internet, But I know that I can't pay off so no point in spending it.

I think I am similar to Clairey em in that if I have a little money left over - which I really should save - and I have paid out to all my debts/all bills are paid....then I seem to do all I can to spend the money!
So to this end I have recently started to bank any spare change I have hanging around in my purse, using the HSBC coin sorter. So if I want to spend money I have to go to the speedbank to get it....which gives me the opportunity of giving myself a mental slap across the face with a wet fish and talking myself out of it.

Unfortunately, I impulse buy when I'm bored - a case in point is tonight, when I was so bored during revision that I spent £30 at hqhair.com.
Normally, my downfall is buying books, or stuff from the Body Shop at Clarks Village0 -

my worst time is when Im not well. I decide that I never want to feel this bad again and so go on a healthy diet. I then throw caution to the winds and stock up with lots of extra fruit, veg, nuts, wholegrain products, organic meat etc. etc. This always works out very expensive because my son is a junk food addict so I end up paying for 2 different meals every evening. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0
