Ooh thanks, how soon? You mean like now-ish? I want to be MSE and not lose too much of the year :p I bought the car the day it came out of it's MOT last year! They told me it passed first time but i looked it up on tinterweb and it failed on emissions and handbrake the first time! Tsk!

I have a slight bulge in my tyre so i will get a new one before i put it in. Also need a spare, which i deffo will get anyway - BUT does it need a spare to pass?

You won't loss any time as the MOT computer will start the new one when the old one runs out assuming you pass.

You don't need a spare for MOT

Ooh thanks jeannie, just to be clear, if i get it done now i won't lose any time as it'll be post-dated to it's expiry date?

Also a bit confused by your 2nd comment - you say it doesn't need the spare to pass but that you put one on to make it legal to pass?! (It doesn't take much to confuse me :p)

(Sorry, i'm totally hijacking now i hope OP doesn't mind) I'm almost done :D

I had new brake pads & discs about 10 weeks ago, and he said that i'll be needing a new caliper (?) soon but wasn't urgent. He said it was sticking slightly... if it's sticking will it fail on that?

Yes - it will be automatically dated on to the expiry date by VOSA - MOT station has no control over that, it is all computerised now.

Re the caliper - no guarantees - you will just have to wait and see if it passes the brake test. Fingers crossed that it will!

I'm more excited about the baby!! :j

Sorry BeenieCat - probably my fault!

We remove an illegal tyre and replace with the spare (which is legal). The 'new' spare would then be illegal, if you see what I mean... :o but the car will pass.... :D

    Hi all.

    My car passed  woo!

I'm a little confused though. My new MOT cert still has an advisory sheet attached but for only "nearside front [sic] tyure close to legal limit". Should an MOT have a typo on it?

So, on the day of the test my brakes "efficiency" were fine??

To get the car through the MOT, as already stated, I did the minimum and replaced the n/s front tyre but this was then swapped with the o/s rear. Therefore, was I lucky first time around that the o/s rear tyre's tread wasn't picked up on and I'm unlucky second tine around?

If I sold this car, do I have to show the orginal MOT cert and advisory or can I just show the (more facourable) full re-test MOT + advisory report?

    Thanks

should it have a typo? Is that a serious question?!

No it shouldnt but dont worry about it, just a typo

You only need to mot paper, if they ask for it of course

OK, OK. Yes I phrased that wrong. What I should have said (after my morning coffee ;)) was can it have a typo? I was under the impression that the fail/advisory statements were copy/paste lines of text from a global crib sheet or similar. Obviously not though - hence the typo :D
