The Great 'Cheapest Decent Laptop' Hunt

 I was given code by email for 5% off Dell after I'd ordered my laptop. It was a US code - they even give UK customers these codes and they don't work. I just tried this online to see if it worked - it didn't for me. If it was a US code, they're not valid according to their terms and conditions.0

I find this whole codes business in general quite interesting...
just for the fact that it's so chaotic, as a promotional tool.
I assume Dell are still getting something out ot it? Seems like a lucky dip almost.
Anyhoo... I think I'll probably just order that Sony I linked to above.
*Should* be no problems doing it on a Saturday, but... we'll see.0 -
hi - I'm looking for a very cheap laptop (emphasis on cheap due to being a poor NHS worker!!!!), and wondered if anyone had seen any less than the £399 Acer in Staples? All I want it for is broadband internet access and Word etc.

Yeah, but the Dell offers are over for a while. Have a search on www.kelkoo.co.uk - one of the best shop bots. I use it all the time to get bargains. lol, there's always the 5% off ... **Code Removed by Board Guide. All codes must be posted on the vouchers board - Reason explained here**

I've just ordered one of these

edit : it's got a referrer ID on the end of the link but it isn't one. I just search for it via the quicklinx code.0 -

Just out of interest, I recently bought an Inspiron 2200 for £385 inc VAT, Shipping and a free printer and am chuffed to the nines with it :j :
Intel Celeron M 1.40 GHz, High-resolution 15" XGA (1024 x 768), Internal wireless LAN, via mini PCI, for wireless connection on the go, 3 fast USB 2.0 technologies offer more bandwidth for transferring digital files and sending images to and from your computer, DVD/CD-RW drive,
56K V.92 Modem and broadband ready 10/100 Ethernet network card, 256mb ram, Ni-Mh 8 cell battery.
It was either that or the Inspiron 1200 for £321 inc VAT, Shipping without a wireless PCIMA card for WLAN and no free printer which was on offer the week before:
Intel Celeron M 1.40 GHz, High-resolution 14.1" XGA, 3 USBs 2.0, DVD/CD-RW drive, 56K V.92 Modem and broadband ready 10/100 Ethernet network card, 256mb ram, Ni-Mh 8 cell battery.
I did also consider the Inspiron 6000 which was on offer at the same time as my 2200 for £514 Inc, VAT & Shipping:
Intel Centrino Celeron 1.40 GHz, High-resolution 15.4" XGA, Internal wireless LAN, via mini PCI, for wireless connection on the go, 4 USBs 2.0, DVD/CD-RW drive, 56K V.92 Modem and broadband ready 10/100 Ethernet network card, 512mb ram, Li-Ion 6 cell battery, free printer.
My reasons for choosing the 2200 over the 6000 were:
1). Price.
2). Looking at the detailed specs of the Inspiron 6000, there are media buttons - more to wear out and go wrong. What's wrong with using software to increase the volume, or play, pause, skip tracks etc?
3). It's not much to install an extra 256mb of ram yourself.
4). I don't like widescreen.
5). it's silver and white - very tacky in my mind. lol. I think the 2200 I went for is more robust with less add ons to go wrong (a bit of a tank). lol.
You all probably come to the conclusion that I don't part with my money until I'm sure that I'm getting what I want for a good price. Perspective sellers must love me - "can I help you m'am?" "No, !!!!!! off while I go look at the other 5 offers I have seen and compare before I part with my life savings." lmao. :rotfl:
