DELL have an Inspiron 15 - 15.6" laptop for £329 which is fine just for browsing and emails. Go through Quidco for an extra 3% off.
However I notice in the poll above, Dell do not even get a mention !
Is this because they are not included in the poll or because they are banned? According to that poll the only 2 laptops worth buying are Toshiba and Sony. My son has had a Dell laptop for 4 years and not a single problem. I have a Dell PC and after 6 months of purgatory (Indian call centre) it has now settled down and have had no probs. for a year.
(touching wood as I type)! I need a laptop and I agree it is a minefield.
Are there any computer manufacturers who give good after sales service ? I asked 3 computer magazines why they did not give a 'service' rating for any manufacurer and none of them replied. I assume it is 'cos they daren't for fear of losing their advertising revenue."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -

The tech guy at PC World said it would be around £60 for the HD and £40-ish to have it fitted,
40 quid to fit a hdd that takes 5 min max to fit ! the robbing bunch of **** :eek:22864 quid and counting , but now proud to be dealing with it :j

For the sake of all that is holy do not get a Hewlett Packard. Bought 2 just over a year ago. Both got motherboard problems, one got fixed the other is now junk. I would take all day to list the problems and the ludicrous solutions HP suggested. Eventually someone from their complaints dept rang. After listening to me he says he has no technical knowhow, it is out of warranty, £267 to repair or replace.A fool may give advice but the one who takes it is the bigger fool.0
