I assume you've dismissed a new HD for your old machine?

The tech guy at PC World said it would be around £60 for the HD and £40-ish to have it fitted, he said due the the age of the laptop it would be worth adding a bit more money and buying a new laptop. The Dell option above lets me add another 1GB of memory for extra cost. I definately don't want a slow machine.

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

That acer looks a better spec than this, but doesn't have a camera - which isn't all that important to me

Am i right - the HD looks much better capacity?
  • Sadly the price appears to have gone up now to £396.

Sadly the price appears to have gone up now to £396.

    Check tomorrow morning. ;)

Before Xmas I was building a new PC, and checking prices of various options, ebuyer would regularly increase the price of a certain processor by £5 mid-evening.

It would be back to its original price when I checked the next teatime.

I'm guessing that evening is when it does a fair bit of business
    Move along, nothing to see.
  • I'm also currently in the market for a sub £400 laptop. From my searching, the following Compaq on Amazon is the best deal: "See Amazon - Presario-CQ61-225SA-Notebook-Pentium-Processor"

Things I'm interested in, sub 3kg, HDMI port, decent processor (Comparison of processors: notebookcheck.net), 3 USB ports, webcam

Sorry, can't post links as I'm a new member

nbrown1 - that one looks ok to me but it does have Vista rather than Windows 7, you might be able to get bigger hard drive for your money too? Think i'll go with a windows 7 option.

Very good choice, I'd avoid Vista like the plague now Win7 is out.
  • Another Vista laptop with great specs for a good price:
Toshiba A300-21H 15.4in Laptop from Argos

I'm this and Compaq I mentioned earlier both qualify for upgrades to Windows 7 through the manufacturers but I've got a copy of it through work so won't be an issue. Otherwise there's always winXP!
