Who are you talking about? It's helpful to quote when referring to a specific person...
It's not helpful to quote when the person being referred to is a deliberately offensive troll as more often than not when the post is removed (as it has now been along with all the other trash he posted) the quote in the next persons post can remain.
  • Hi guys. Looking for a little help, anything is appreciated. I'm in the process of finding a desktop replacement for my old (7 years or so) dell Inspiron 1450. Don't use it for anything much, mainly internet, office work etc. Occasionaly will be using some image editing software which should run on anything with atleast 2gb of ram and a decent processor. Budget is £500 max. So far, I have the following options...

    Dell Inspiron 1750 ; Pentium Dual Core T4300, 3gb ram, 17.3", 512mb ATI Radeon HD4330 - about £440 incl. student discount

    Toshiba Satellite L350D-215 ; AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core Ql-65, 4gb ram, 17", ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics 1406 Mb - £450 from Amazon

    Acer Aspire 6930G - 643G25Bn ; Core 2 Duo T6400, 3Gb ram, 16", Blu-ray, nVidia 9300GS 256MB - £430 from Play.com

The acer is tempting me simply for the blu-ray drive but it is an Acer and i've heard bad things about some of their machines. A blu-ray drive wasn't a pre-req when I started looking but since i'd like to have the laptop for a few years yet I'm thinking it'll be a decent investment. Although it has what appears to be a weak graphics card? Both the toshiba and acer have HDMI ports too which is a bonus. Any thoughts? I guess the blu-ray or not is a choice I have to make but any opinions on the rest of the specs? Cheers
  • Just about to buy this one: but haven't heard of the processor. For £299 and basic student use, is this a catch or one to avoid?

    Thanks for all your help!

  • Hi, this is my first post to this board, so hopefully this deal is good enough! Tried to put it on "Quick, grab it while you can" but it doesn't seem to be accepting new threads...

CCL Computers have HP Pavilion DV3-2130ea laptops at a heavy discount on their website. Amazon has a few of these still in stock, retailing for £794.63. Specification includes an Intel Core 2 Duo P7550 running at 2.26 GHz, 4 GB ram, 500 GB SATA HDD, NVIDIA GeForce G105M graphics card. It comes in Espresso with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. This model is now discontinued, replaced by the slightly lower spec but Windows 7 equipped DV3-2230ea, which retails on Amazon for £729.

Now, presumably to clear old stock, CCL have a limited number available for £574.99 (see under their C3 deals), which is about £220 cheaper than Amazon and still £155 cheaper than the newer, lower spec but Windows 7 version.

They also have more at a slightly higher, but still good value price of £599.

I have ordered one myself, which hasn't arrived yet, but thought some people on here might be interested in picking one up before VAT goes up again. To be even-handed, I've had some issues regarding delivery, but that is largely due to the poor weather where I live in south Wales. I've had a good look online and they have won awards for online retail from mags like PC Pro in recent years, so I'm confident that the product will be well worth the delay and the excellent price tag.

Oh, and if anyone is concerned about it not having Windows 7, I've checked out HP's website, which seems to suggest that you can order an pack to upgrade this laptop to Windows 7 for minimal cost before the end of January.

These are not Laptops but Notebooks !!
  • I think what you meant is netbook, which are usually 12.1" or smaller, such as a Samsung NC10, which is 10".

This is a 13.3" laptop, which are starting to be called sub-notebooks due to their compact size and portability. This is the same size as the MacBook Pro, for example.

But the spec on this is clearly very good and is much better than any netbook would be, that's why it costs alot more than a netbook!
