  • Please can anyone help. I have been looking to buy a new laptop installed with Widows 7 and have narrowed it down to 2. Asus X5DIJ on sale in Argos for £399 or Samsung R519 just reduced today to £379. They both have same spec except the Asus does not state if it has an ethernet port. Think I prefer the Asus but not if no ethernet port. Does anyone know if it has one or advise me which one is best. Thanks
  • where are you getting this from at this price

    thanks

    Hi,

We're thinking of buying this pc for our daughter for Xmas:

    Packard Bell Easynote TJ68-AU-031

    Intel® Pentium® Dual Core T4300 (2.1 GHz), Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 4096 Mo, Hard drive: 320 Gb, DVD-RW rewriter, Red shell, 15.6 Widescreen

I've noticed on here lots of people don't like Packard-Bell though!

Also I can get this price down to around £397 with codes and quidco.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Clare.

For that price, its a very decent laptop. P Bell is not the preferred brand of laptops, Ive had one before and it lasted me close to 5 years. If you're happy, then go for it, good specs with decent price.

when these companies display laptops on their websites and they also show 'what you also may need' ...I can't see a wireless router...surely that is an essential piece of kit?...

Most people get a free wireless router via their provider.

I saw this today, think it is a good deal and with free carry case

  • hi all,

what do you think of this laptop? HP DV7-2230SA here
    http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/product/184083/?camp_id=ppc_c_go_LT_laptop_hp_pavilion_dv7_2230sa&source_id=aw&camp_id=Currys%20Google

Considering the price, I would be interested in going for something even more powerful, maybe with an I7 processor.

Also, do any experts know much about the benefits of the different windows versions? Have had a look on the microsoft website and it seems the only useful one is the xp mode.
  • I have a "20% off" comet online voucher and would like to use it to buy a Laptop for my daughter. Can anybody recommend or warn me off any particular ones that Comet currently have online. Ideally she would have liked one that would play Sims 3 but the game's system requirements for widows XP are:

2.0 GHz p4 processor or equivalent
    1 GB Ram
128MB Video Card with support for pixel shader 2.0
The latest version of directX 9.0c
    Microsoft XP service pack 2
At least 6.1 GB of Hard Drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games

I don't know whether windows 7 changes the above or not.
If playing sims 3 is out of the question budget wise then her usage would be for facebook etc, word, listening & down loading music, webcam. Budget upto £450 before 20% off.
Any advise would be very welcome as I need to make a decission, far too much time spent reaserching already!

i dont. For £50 more you can get a much better processor, experience on here says that the celeron is a very slow processor. 2GB is not fantastic either, you normally get 3/4GB at £400. Dont be swayed by the free carry case.
