Firstly - what one would folks go for and secondly should I keep on looking or are these really good deals?0 -
Hi there
I am after 2 laptops for my kids. They will need it for a bit of school work, but mainly for playing internet based games. they probably wont be playing games on pc software as they have their xbox but they play a game called runescape which is a java based game and they also go on websites to play shoot em up games online. I just wanted to know if you think the HP Compaq 6735s Laptop will suit the bill. I have found it for £621 for the 2 of them including delivery. Or can you recommend something else? dont really want to spend more than £400 each on them.
thanks in advance. Karen0 -

The processors are pretty much equal or the first one might just shed it. The first one is intel while the second is AMD. However, the second has a dedicated ATI card which definitely makes it a better option. Comparing both, second choice for me. HTH0 -

I take it that your budget is around less than 500 quid based on your 2 suggested laptops which are around that price. For that price, the best specs i could find at the moment is an Acer Aspire 5738G. Its got a C2D 6600 processor which is better than you 2 choices, 4GB RAM and huge 320GB hard drive. It also has a better graphics card and comes with windows 7 too. So, if you're thinking of spending around 500 quid, thats a better choice IMHO.

For Skintslimmer
Have you tried studentstore.co.uk. They give 3 year warranty. and it looks like good prices. (I haven't done a serious comparison)
For security:
Grisoft free antivirus 9, or Vipre
Zonealarm free
Spybot and run it once a week.0 -
Hi,
We're thinking of buying this pc for our daughter for Xmas:
Packard Bell Easynote TJ68-AU-031
Intel® Pentium® Dual Core T4300 (2.1 GHz), Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 4096 Mo, Hard drive: 320 Gb, DVD-RW rewriter, Red shell, 15.6 Widescreen
I've noticed on here lots of people don't like Packard-Bell though!
Also I can get this price down to around £397 with codes and quidco.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

It really depends on what the Laptops will be used for....
If purely for Internet surfing, facebook, Twitter, Skyping etc... and they don't require a DVD Drive then I suggest looking into Netbooks (samsung NC10 can be bought for around £250 or less from Pixmania)...see Trustedreviews for more info:
http://www.trustedreviews.com/filter/laptops?price_min=nmin&price_max=nmax&score=0§ion_id=13&filter=123&manufacturer=0&submit.x=27&submit.y=8
However the screens are approx 10inches...so if your daughters are into Graphics, art and design etc...they may not be appropriate.
Many people I know (including myself) buy from DELL Outlet..which are returned machines that have been refurbished or had their order cancelled.
http://outlet.euro.dell.com/topics/global.aspx/arb/online/en/InventorySearch?c=uk&cs=ukdfh1&l=en&lob=INSP&s=dfh
Filter on the price for < £500 and see what machines they have available for your budget.....Bear in mind that they will add VAT and delivery on the prices displayed.0
