Guys, keep it on topic please
I'm looking at laptops to get myself as a treat, what does everyone think of the newer EEEs? Worth it?

Hi Jane,
They've got an 8 hour battery life which is amazing and they do look pretty nice, but im still not convinced by these "Mini Laptops". To be that size and have a battery life that good there has got to be some give in the performance.
So i suppose it depends what you use it for, personnally i need the power for the software i run but if you are just browsing the web on the go then might be worth a bash! There certainly a good look!0 -

Hi Jane,
They are ok if all you want them for is surfing the net and emailing as that is all they are designed for. I set up a Samsung NC10 netbook for someone and was quite impressed with it. Very lightweight, good battery life although not 8 hours as stated! To get this you would need to put all power on minumum and turn off the wi-fi.
There is no dvd drive on them too so watching dvds or cds is a no go unless you loaded them to the harddrive first via usb. Seems to handle MS office ok, but best to add another 1gb ram to give it a boost!0 -

The HP one comes with 2 years warranty though, the Fujitsu only with one? My previous laptop lasted 4 years until it died so I'm a bit out of practise with buying one!0

Hey thats not bad then. I would go for the HP then, its worth it for the extra years warranty. Its only a slightly lower spec than the fujitsu and HP is a good make. Snap it up quick!! :-)0 -

I really hate AMD laptop CPU's. In my personal opinion they run slow and hot! Intel rules at the moment as far as i'm concerned. But you pays you money and takes your choice! :-)0 -

The EEEs are brilliant IMO. Cheap and cheerful. I bought one of the first generation ones for travelling about a year ago and it has never missed a beat. Only down side is the lack of storage and processing power. But they have gone a long way since and have come out with new models with the latest ATOM processors in them with 160Gig hard drives, which is more than usable for most business users I would imagine.
I've even seen EEEs on youtube running Warcraft, Photoshop, etc.
Sorry this may be a little biased but I love them so much I'm going to upgrade to another one :jI'm tight and I'm proud!0
