Hopefully sbdy will come back and advise...
I need a new laptop..mine is about 6yrs old and slow...(and will go to 5yr old DD so she can go on internet without bugging me!)
Would like good memory, built in webcam, CD writer, XP, watch DVD .... just for general surfing, photos etc.. budget is not massive either..If at all possible around £300.
I went to PC world and really was a bit lostand don't really know what to look for...so thought i might ask here...
Any advice on what to check please? or any deals? or any make to avoid?
Thank you as always
Have you tried tesco direct, they have some reasonably good spec laptops at reasonable prices, and you get club card points too!! Ideally you want a laptop with at least 2GB Ram0 -
I would avoid HP and compaq at ALL costs. Poor customer service and build quality on their laptops, what a waste of £899 that was  2 years warranty's no good when the problem keeps re-occuring after they've fixed it, about 3 month wait too.
Agreed, mine's in for the second time less than 8 weeks after it was returned to me for the same faults, and it's only 8 months old
Their customer service/repair center call center people are all very hard to understand - and they can't understand me and I'm a fairly clear lincolnshire speaker (if that makes sense :rotfl: no thick accent I mean) I'm not entirely sure what their accent is, I think Indian but I'm awful with accentsOne had me spell out my entire name and address phonetically because she couldn't understand me - or my request for her to pass me on to someone else who may be able to understand me.
I've currently raised a help ticket complaint with the head office - but it's in America and they keep asking me to ring them....! :rolleyes:0 -

PS
DELL customer service would make you want to top yourself - passed from pillar to post - have to tell the same story to each individual person - who struggle to understand you. I will NEVER NEVER buy another Dell bec of their cusomer service.0 -
