No OS at that price , with XP or Vista it jumps to £ 400...
How easy is it to install XP on a blank computer ?
And where can I buy the OS from?
How much should I pay?
Will have a rummage through my junk at home , might have one of these from an old PC.0 -
Yeah, it kind of makes it less of a good deal, but you have the choice whether or not you want to pay for an OS or what OS you want to put on.
You can buy XP from Ebuyer for £70, or Vista for £84
If you aready have an XP or Vista disk (and key code) from an old computer (or elsewhere), then you can easily install that. Yes it's very easy to install an OS these days, you enter setup, select boot from CD and just insert the disk and follow instructions.
I would not use an OS any older than Windows XP, so if you have a Win98 disk, please don't use that.
You could even put a free OS like Ubuntu Linux on it if you wanted.0 -
For those who have been advised by COMET staff all have been sold - it is correct however, I purchased one for my mother ysterday.
As long as you pay in full for the laptop in store they will order one for you & lock in @ the current sale price as been advertised on TV over Easter.
We were advised new bulk stock were being delivered straight from Toshiba in 5-8 weeks.
So we have reserved one & they will contact us when it will arrive in store to be collected.
For those who still want this laptop as a bargain - get to your local store now as were advised when new stock arrives it maybe back @ its original price @ £499.99.
Hey just a word of warning, I work for Comet at there are very few of these laptops coming in. We're trying, but don't think every customer who has prepaid will get it tbh. If we can't the store should refund the money without question. I'm not saying you wont get yours, but I wouldn't advise anyone going in now to order.0 -
Not sure if this has already been mentioned. Morrisons of all places have an Asus X58C laptop for £247! It is only a Celeron 2.0 GB single core processor with 1GB RAM, but comes with Vista Home, DVD-r and 15.4 in screen.
I have just bought one for my wife, who just wants it for Internet and basic Office functionality. £9.99 for an extra 1GB ram delivered from 7dayshop.com and you have a very cheap functional laptop.
The local morrisons were still advertising them the other day when I went in.0 -
The laptops which you mentioned for poll are good(do not know much about those because never used) but i use Dell and i am very happy with itMoney is not the only answer, but it makes a difference.

Hey, it's all gone a bit quiet on this thread at the moment!!
For those of you who bought the Asus X59GL, how are you getting on with it? I see that it's still available at Ebuyer and it looks like a good deal.
Does anybody else know of any cracking deals?0 -
The new ACer Aspire timeline looks like a good deal if you want something that looks really smart as well :j0
