    Thanks RacyRed...

Just noticed that Sony are top of the poll... where to get a cheap Sony from?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!??!!??
  • I too have bought the Asus X59GL-AP007C Laptop and am very pleased.

I do have a couple of questions if someone could help please ?

It comes with a 60 day trial of Office 2007. This has Word, Excel, Powerpoint & Outlook.

I have bought Office Home & Student but this has not got "OutLook".

Will I need to uninstall the trial programme & install the discs I have bought ?

What will I use for my eMail ?

Or if I want to keep Outlook where is the cheapest place to buy the "code" I need to keep the installed & set up version.

Exactly the question I'll need answering too (when I actually go out and buy - still undecided ) - but I really do need to do it now.

It's things like this which are causing me to delay as I have to have a seamless turnover from the old to the new - dreading it :o

Am after spending around £300 on a laptop for my wife who is about to start maternity leave (and has to hand her teacher's laptop back). She was using an Acer 2490 with 35 of the 60GB HD being used. Mostly to be used for internet surfing / word based apps. No Gaming.
Have seen these if anyone could coment or suggest others (have seen posts about Dell for 329/349 so that's a possibility as well.

    Acer Aspire 5720 £293.48:
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 1.50Ghz, 2MB L2 Cache
    Screen: 15.4" Widescreen CrystalBrite Display
Hard Drive : 80GB Hard Drive
    Memory: 2048MB RAM
Optical Drive: DVD-RW Super Multi Dual Layer
Graphics Controller: Intel X3100 GMA (GM965)
    Wireless LAN: 802.11a/b/g
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium
    Webcam: Yes, 0.3 MegaPixel Webcam
Other Items: 5 in 1 card reader

and a Toshiba Satellite L300-1BV Celeron Dual Core T1600 with 160gb HD. 2048 RAM £330

    Thanks in advance.
  • Almo hello, I bought this new laptop to replace an 3 year old Acer Aspire which was great, apart from a problem with the powerpin coming loose twice. It was £90 both times to have it replaced.

This seems to be a known Acer fault, I would do some checking to see if it is still a problem with the latest versions.

For those of you buying new laptops with trial versions of Office - the licence keys required for the trial versions are not supported by boxed versions or retail versions. Normally from wherever you buy your laptop you can also purchase the licence for the trial version - otherwise yes you will have to uninstall the trial if only to recover the harddrive space.

Do you need all of the functions that Outlook offers above and beyond simple email? It's about £75 to buy. To just manage email you can use something like Windows Live Mail or Mozilla Thunderbird, both of which are free of charge.
