HCL Infosystems today launched MiLeap – a fully functional, portable range of laptops that sport a starting price tag of Rs 13,990. Slated to be the world’s cheapest ultra-portable laptops (Allied Computers announced laptops priced at Rs 14,999 a couple of days back), the MiLeap would be available in two series, X and Y, at a starting price of Rs 13,990 and Rs 29,990 respectively.

  • Ok.... to return to the OP if only briefly..!

Is there any current consensus as to front runners for the cheap/decent quality combo?
  • I was hoping to get a toshiba L300 11V but since currys advertised it on tele haven't managed to find it in stock anywhere except Pixmania Has anyone had dealings with them are they good or to be avoided. Doesn't anyone know where else I can get one of these from or a similar laptop with that spec hoping not to go over £350 Many thanks

Pixmania are owned by fotovista but DSG International own 75% of this company so that means it is owned by the Currys and Dixons group. They also own PC World.
I got my laptop from ebuyer and had no troubles but there have been some reviews that I have read of bad experiences.

Hi- thanks to everyone who contributes to this thread- its been really helpful to me as I've been thinking of buying a laptop for my daughter's eighteenth birthday/christmas combined. As her birthday is in January I've been a bit torn about whther to wait- my head says yes but I keep thinking of how lame Christmas day will be. And also I guess there is never a perfect time to buy.
Anyway, I've been looking at the dell studio 1737 on pixmania for £389 with a code for £10 and quidco.http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/2203194/art/dell/studio-1737-red.html?i!!!!!3894

I think it looks like a good deal- I was looking at the dell on their outlet site before and it seems to compare quite well...but I wonder if I'm not seeing something that is missing or I should think about? I see its an Intel Dual core not a duo...does that matter? She has an external hard drive as well so storage won't be a problem- it won't surprise you to know that she will use it for school work and also web and watching dvds etc
Here is the spec- its in lots of colours too which she likes.

Looks a good deal to me too, has some dedicated graphics memory which is quite impressive for under £400 and the rest of the spec is reasonable.

Thank you. I think I'm going to get it- its down to £381 now btw.
  • Although it said it was in stock, as soon as I ordered it was out of stock and doesn't look like it will get here now  but never mind.
