krumped - see my post earlier...
I was rooting around all over before I ordered mine..and it really depends on what spec you want/need. Was going to go for a cracking refurb with xp for £200, and in some ways now wish I had done...but then saying that, the only thing wrong with the advent I got is that it's running vista......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

I worked for 5 years managing hardware failure repair incidents, personally from what I have managed I would go for a Dell, Toshiba or HP, all reliable brands that have spare parts available for them if something goes wrong. I have bought Toshiba in the past but current work laptop is an HP nc6320 which is great. Sony although good quality needs to be sent abroad to be fixed under their warranty (used to be France). So theyre great until they go wrong.
For £289.99inc vat recently bought
HP 6720s Laptop Intel Celeron M 540 1.86GHz 1 x 1GB, 80GB DVD-RW WLAN, 15.4" WXGA (1280 x 800 resolution) Bluetooth, SD Card Reader Vista Home Basic (Office 07 Ready *Trial)

People were amazed at what you got for the money. I would suggest this as a combination of quality and price.0 -
Has anybody used or looked at the free laptop offers with AOL, Orange, Carphone Warehouse and Utility Warehouse?
I dont know whether it would be cheaper to buy a laptop or take up one of the offers?
Im only looking to spend about £300 or less, but would like windows and at least 80GB.
Any suggestions/recommendations please?0 -

Depends if you want to lock into an expensive broadband deal for extended period. The one I looked at was £36 a month for 18months. So you probably end up paying over the odds for both the broadband and the laptop. If you want to spread the cost of the laptop it may be worthwhile in comparison to borrowing money on a credit card.0 -
Hi everyone
I am looking for a 17" laptop with fairly decent hard drive and memory. I saw this at pcworld and it seems £100 cheaper than the average larger screen laptop:

Would anyone recommend this spec for the money?
Thanks for any help.0 -
Please tell me someone,
what's better
Dual core, core 2 duo, intel celeron?
Is it worth paying extra for one or is there not much difference?"fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell)0 -

Hi everyone,
My husband was going to get me a Dell Inspiron 1525 for my birthday, but we realised it will be much cheaper when Dell has a free delivery sale - does anyone have any idea when/if this might happen?
Many thanks!0 -
Hi Everyone
I would like to look into buying my two eldest laptops now as they are getting to an age (8 & 10) where they are taking up time on my wife and I's computers! They will also benefit from the ability to look up homework stuff, write reports, etc.
I would like the laptop to last at least 2 years, and be able to run Vista adaquately as it appears XP laptops are in short supply.
Therefore I suspect my specification is approx:
1Gb minimum
80Gb HDD
ATI/NVidea GFX
Vista Home
Edit: Oh yes, I suspect reliability is probably top of my list as I don't want to have to fix them myself more frequently than once a year!
It will run basic office apps (I suspect I will d/l openoffice for them) and internet explorer, along with Java based games. My sons like's his RPG games so something that could comfortably run some recent(ish) RPG games.
I was hoping for a budget of around £300 each but the run Vista well I suspect my cost will be more. Bear in mind I will require 2 of them!
Thanks in advance
StuTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0
