I thought I would start this one of myself. !I have deliberately picked the old high street knee trembler PC World, as I know posting from such a shop (i know, don't spit) will goad all techies into finding a better deal within a millisecond to ensure it isn't the current running.

    PC World 1GB laptop £499

While 1 Gb is no longer super fast, it is more than adequate for most people looking for office functions and to surf the web. !

OK so that's my ultra quick starter for ten. !Come on MoneySavers smash it....

Ifound this today 29/04/ what do you think?

Might be this http://uk.insight.com/apps/productpresentation/index.php?product_id=HPYA05JIS its £337.33 after the cashback (offer ends 30th April)which aint that great - better off with a Dell Vostro 1000 for £325 with 2GB RAM and 160GB HD. Anyhow its all subjective.

Does this look like a reasonable deal?

The above seems like a good deal, if you're looking.

Found this useful comparison page of the current and forthcoming new range of low-cost and ultraportable laptops which the Eee PC opened the floodgates with:

Useful spec-sheets - makes it easy to see each laptop at a glance - everything is sadly in dollars but its easy enough to divide by 2 (its getting nearer to 3!) in your head.

Wow, that does seem good. Only down side is the 1Gb ram. Is it easy to upgrade does anyone know?

    Cheers

Yeah simple. It will have a small cover on the bottom you can unscrew to reveal the RAM slots, you just unclip and slide out the old RAM and slide in the new. To get the right memory type go to crucial and enter the laptop model or use their memory scanner and they will give the correct memory type guaranteed:

I'm sure when I last ordered memory from Crucial it came with general instructions and precautions on installing it too ;)

And yes that Ebuyer laptop does look a pretty good deal.
