Also is it worth getting the acer advantage extended cover, seem pretty cheap at £49 with a carry case and mouse, but what do I know!

This laptop is currently avail at comet for the same price and in-store collect (i.e. pay cash or highstreet vouchers, etc).

HP media centre G6032EA available at mo for £449 and free delivery. Use ONLINE as a discount code and the price is £404.10. Sainsbury's and Viking Direct have a medion one at £399. More or less same spec as HP but different processor I think. Hope this helps.2p or not 2p? That is the question!0

Not that much use for watching DVD's though, there is no CD or DVD drive, and even with an external drive the resolution is only 800x480.
Exactly.
My son works in a national High Street retailer that includes lappies in its stock. This particular retailer has a well-founded reputation for playing fair with customers and taking back stuff which turns out not to be what the buyer was actually expecting.
In recent months there've been a number of returns of lappies in the Fujitsu brand. Nothing wrong with the lappies, and nothing wrong with the price they were sold at: around £300.
What was wrong was all the purchasers who breezed in thinking a BMW can be bought for the price of a Kia.
There's always going to a problem with fixing a price point first rather than fixing one's requirements first (and understanding just how those requirements are going to be met.)0 -

Can't help with that, unfortunately.
However: we've had two PCs from Hewlett Packard itself at eBay prices (including a new media centre, back in 2005, at exactly half the price being asked at that time by Comet and Currys / Dixons.)
Both PCs have worked fine and if they were, as HP said, "refurbished", there was no way of telling. Everything was brand new, including carton and inner packaging. And the manufacturer warranty was 12 months.
We keep an eye on HP's stock by visiting this link: they tend to "batch" this type of sale so you may find that some weeks, there's nothing available:
