No, the dual core is the older processor, the core2duo is newer and more efficient.

  • Ok the old chestnut... I have £300 to spend on a laptop, what is the best deal at the moment? This one on amazon looks good to me but am I missing something? Just need it for word processing, watching DVDs and web browsing.

Also is it worth getting the acer advantage extended cover, seem pretty cheap at £49 with a carry case and mouse, but what do I know!

  • exactly the same question from me as bigvince.

300 quid to spend, what's the best deal?

How do the current Currys / PC World / Supermarket deals stack up.

1 gig of ram is essential - 2 gig of ram would be absolutely great (but doubt it's available in any of these budget buys)?

  • I'd actually like one of those!

    two questions...

    1) is it available in the shops (not just online)

    2) does it run winxp (i know it ships with linux, it's a pc so i suppose it must do)

    1) It doesn't even seem to be in stock anywhere on line, and definitely not in store anywhere.

    2) Yes, XP can be loaded, though it is recommended that the RAM is upgraded to 1 GB and the virtual memory paging file is turned off (the eee PC only has a 4GB solid state drive).

Not that much use for watching DVD's though, there is no CD or DVD drive, and even with an external drive the resolution is only 800x480.

Not sure 'more efficient' is quite accurate. Certainly more powerful but whereas dual core reduced energy consumption dual core 2 has taken the consumption (more or less) back to whre it was.

Unless you *need* the extra power I would go for dual core on a laptop just because of better battery life per charge.

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
