I have been advised by the techies at work that this is a good buy, although I quite like the Toshiba mentioned a couple of posts above. The machine will be for my lad going to Uni in September (B'day next week)
Hewlett Packard RU964AA - at e buyer £346.91 inc VAT
Spec Rundown:
Intel Centrino PM 770 Processor
512MB System Memory
60GB Hard Disk Drive
DVD+/-RW Optical Drive
15.4" WXGA Brightview Display
Integrated Wifi Wireless Lan
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
All coments welcome.
May struggle with Vista though. I would opt for slightly higher specs for a bit more future proofing.Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
I've been negotiating a price with Dell for 2 weeks. Be warned: the Easter bunny has added on at least £50 (same spec as late March) to their advertised 'offers'. Hope they will go down again next week.
They claim though that their warranty extensions are on special until tomorrow.
I paid £79 for another year NBD onsite on my old laptop which beats any repair quote I've had. Doesn't mean that it won't be £59 next week with Dell though.
That is the thing with dell. you need to watch the prices and grab them when they come down or an offer goes on.
They have got wiser to callers trying to get a better deal and it is harder to get one out of them, but always worth a go.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0 -
You might want to re-check that price. I put the !!!!!! on my favourites list yesterday so I can get one in a couple of weeks and it's gone up £100 today :eek:0 -
I was just wondering, after looking at a link on an earlier page, would you go for :-
An Intel Celeron M 1.6GHz with 1GB of RAM
OR
An AMD Turion 64 MK36 2GHZ with 512Mb of RAM0 -
Tricky question.
If you go for the AMD you can always add extra RAM (memory) at a later date for not too much more money.
However, the Intel will do you nicely for now. I don't think you'll notice the diff in processor speed very much.
I personally believe that 1GB RAM is now the industry norm.
Standing by to be proved wrong!!

PS: I'm also gutted about that Acer 17" in tesco. I drove to my nearest store only two nights ago and was very tempted. Gutted.0 -
