Also on the hunt - looking for decent processor (Duo or equiv), 15.4, 40Gb+, 512ram+, would be happy with XP. Under £450 is poss!

Most of the cheap deals seem to be on older processors although intially laptops direct seem to have some cheap deals - can anyone point out a decent one - bit overwhelmed!!

Just don't buy 2nd hand/refurbished. It will be overpriced, worn out & old. You are better off with an older spec new one.

  • Hunniah, maybe a bit late for you, that laptop looks alright but it's got a small screen which might be an issue for you.

Acer Aspire 17" laptop with Vista E7004 £379.97

    Is this worth getting?
  • Sempron 3400 is a pretty basic processor and is not bery "future proof"

I'm hoping to find something comparable to the dell offer I missed - ie something dual core for under £400.

    Struggling though.....

It is very competitive & acer have a good name. I've seen them in store. The good thing about getting it from tesco or similar outlet is that if you are not happy with it for whatever reason you can take it back in to the store and get it sorted immediately. I'd still go for a dell though

  • I bought a Gateway notebook from best buy. it was only 599 and it has a intel duel core, 1 gig ram ati radeon xpress 200m and windows vista. the screen is the smaller 15 inch, but im cool with that. I am really happy with it.

I've been negotiating a price with Dell for 2 weeks. Be warned: the Easter bunny has added on at least £50 (same spec as late March) to their advertised 'offers'. Hope they will go down again next week.
They claim though that their warranty extensions are on special until tomorrow.
I paid £79 for another year NBD onsite on my old laptop which beats any repair quote I've had. Doesn't mean that it won't be £59 next week with Dell though.

I have been advised by the techies at work that this is a good buy, although I quite like the Toshiba mentioned a couple of posts above. The machine will be for my lad going to Uni in September (B'day next week)
