In fact, wont the makers know who bought the camera, most owners register for a guarantee, I know thats no good if secondhand but it does introduce some traceability and would help in the L&F website.
I don't know the serial number for anything I own, does anyone?0 -
Yes I would definitely make the effort as I have been on the otherside of this debate! It's awful to lose your all those holiday memories.0

definitely would.found myself in this position when i found a camara in a taxi. I asked where the last pick was from( it was a hotel close by) and returned the camera to a hotel for the owner to pickup on their return0

YES!
I actually lost (& had returned) my camera in Turkey.
The hotel manager was surprised I was surprised to get it back.
He said "we are honest in Turkey".
I said, "you may well be, but the hotel is full of English people".:D
Indeed! I'm amazed that some people wouldn't hand it in and would keep the camera. I do hope that the karmic boomerang wings round and hits them.0 -
I'd most definitely hand it in. Whether the camera cost £1 or £100 I'd hand it in. If there are photos on it (not that I would even consider looking!) they are worth more than money. Everywhere sells cameras these days ... I've yet to find a shop that will sell me my lost photos!!0

How can I return it to its owner?" is "Ho trovato questa macchina fotografica. Come posso restituirlo al relativo proprietario?".
To which I would immediatly go to the nearest internet cafe hit babelfish, and come running out shortly afteerwards shouting "Ese parece una c!mara de 100 libras. It' ¡mina de s! ¡La perd! a un rato hace! ¡Gracias para encontrarla - ahora d!mela por favor!" (That looks like a 100 quid camera. It's mine! I lost it a awhile ago! Thankyou for finding it - please give it to me now!)
OK, maybe not, but if you're offering £100 worth of camera, who wouldn't? (Be honest now!)0 -
id hand it in because id wish somone would hand mine in if i lost it also if you kept it you dont know what kind of pics are on there and they could get you in to trouble
Conversely, you could check what kind of pics were on there, and decide whether it's worth finding the owner and blackmailing them for it... :rotfl:0 -
We did have a good idea though. Next time we go away I'm going to take a picture of my name and phone number and maybe the hotel I'm staying at. If anyone finds the cam the chances are they'll look through it and seek us out, I think most people are good Samaritans if you make it easy for them
That might not be such a good idea.
If whoever finds your camera is off home, they've just got your name, address, and know you're not going to be around for a few days.OK, it may be a bit unlikely - but a better option, along the same lines, would be to use your work address...0
