  • nevets2001uk I have an ASDA card and there isn't a catch. Just set up a direct debit to pay the balance each month and you'll get up to 56 days credit which won't cost you a penny. You get 2p off a litre at the pumps which is taken automatically when you pay, and 0.5% cashback on all purchases that comes in the form of an ASDA voucher sent each december.

However I wouldn't recommend one; you're better off getting a Shell credit card. For the first 2 months you get a massive 6 (yes six) pence off a litre at shell, then 3p after that, plus 1% back for all other purchases (i.e. at asda). These are paid in the form of money off shell purchases the next month (i.e. buy 100 litres in Nov and you'll get £6 off fuel in Dec).

Apply for an ipoints credit card, and the first time you use it they will give you 2500 ipoints to spend on whatever you want. Just make sure you pay the card off in full and pay no interest.

If you use the card for any purchases you get 1 point for every pound, and double points in the first 3 months.

The card (which is with the Halifax), also has 0% interest on purchases for 6 months, and 0% on balance transfers for 9 months with a 3% fee (but remember- don't use it for balance transfers if you're going to be spending on it!;) )

For those who don't know about ipoints, it's a bit like a cashback website which awards you points instead of cash- and there are LOADS of things you can spend them on. For instance about 2000 points will get you a CD.

If you sign up for their emails, they will regularly send you emails with links to their partners, and if you click on the link you get 10 ipoints. This is a really easy way to boost your points. I very rarely go through ipoints to buy anything, as I find other cashback sites better, but just by clicking on their emails everyday I saved up enough (about 2000 ipoints) to buy the latest Katie Melua CD, with very little effort!

Details about ipoints and the credit card here: http://www.ipoints.co.uk/credit-card

As requested, once you have the card you get access to MBNA Lifestyle, here you buy the discounted vouchers. If you order £100 from each company you get the following discounts

    e.g £200 Sainsbury's vouchers will cost £188

    Arcadia 9%, Argos 8%, Asda 4%, Boots 7%, Currys 9%, Debenhams 8%, Gap 9%, HMV 8%, Homebase 7%, House of Fraser 10%, JJB 85, Kingfisher 10%, Leisure 9%, Love2Shop 7%, Marks and Spencers 5%, River Island 7%, Sainsbury’s 6%, Threshers 9%, Virgin 7%, WHSmith 9%,

+ you get the Reward Points from MBNA

Although (and already featured on the MSE site) if the retailer goes bust and your left holding the vouchers, they are not normally worth the paper they are printed on!!

So don't but too many at once
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

I got the Amex Platinum card.
Big disappointment was to discover that they gave me a credit limit of £700 for the first 6 months!
They say it's not due to my income (higher than £20K) but this is the 'normal' procedure.
I would say this is the clever procedure!!! This is not fair at all!!!

In this way I cannot use the card as I planned to, and I'm not able to get the best cash back deal:
'a bonus of 5% (5p per £1 spent) on everything for the first three months'

I don't know if I'm the only one out there with this issue but I believe they use this 'trick' with a lot of people!!

    BE AWARE!

I got my AMEX with a lower limit than I asked for but still enough to get the 5%. Customer service has also been good so far (but not paid a bill yet so that could always change).
