The £1 fare is for those who are the first dozen or so who book online plus 50p booking charge.
I don't know where you got the £30 fare from thou. which city are you referring from to London0 -

If you do a test booking on there website for christmas day there are no £1 or cheap fares just on that day and i could only find fares that are over £20 so they are making a bit of money from running them on christmas day.0 -
Without a bus service many people can't visit friend and relatives on Christmas day, and people have to get to work.
Most of Europe has a normal public transport service over Christmas.0 -
Some people would be very happy working xmas day, I know I did when I lived with my ex, I could get £200 for silver service waitering on xmas day and easily double that with tips, and I didnt have to spend the day with the ex, her deeply dippy alcoholic mother and her deranged sex crazed sister.0

Over the past few years, ScotRail has been forced to run regular services in Strathclyde on bank holidays, Christmas Eve/Boxing Day and December 31st/January 2nd. And in almost all cases, it's a complete waste of time and effort. Bank holiday services are generally quiet until the mid-morning (old services started around 8am, now start at 6, and all 'commuter specials' run). Christmas Eve/New Year's Eve, the services run beyond the old run down time of 10pm, to the regular times. Boxing Day/Jan. 2nd, most people don't leave the house till around mid-day, although the services start early.
And our incentive for working? There isn't really any incentive. If it's our day off, we get a lieu day. If we work, we have the choice of a lieu day, or a (slightly) enhanced payment. The only bonus as such is the Christmas Eve/New Year's Eve services, where we might get an extra payment, but that depends on our finishing time.
On a personal level, I don't mind too much about Christmas since I'm neither religious, nor have a young family. New Year is more my thing. But anyone who thinks that the services are run by volunteers is sorely mistakenFight Crime : Shoot Back.
It's the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without being seduced by it.

And on the other side of the coin many drivers can't have a Christmas with their family and loved one's.TimothyEBaldwin wrote: »Without a bus service many people can't visit friend and relatives on Christmas day, and people have to get to work.

One day without a service all year won't/can't be that much of a up heavel for people. Some of these drivers are compulsory rostered duties and get a paltry days lieu for working bank holidays to be taken only when the companies staffing levels are 100% not when the driver wants the day off0 -

Not if only several people book a seat on that day. A coach doing 10 mile to the gallon and a drivers wage to pay.
At the end of the day it's a buisness nd has to make money0 -
Well why not.
Half the country are not Christians anyway, so they can drive the buses as it`s not a holiday for them.(although they treat it as such)
Even T Blair a couple of years ago didn`t send a Christmas card because it might offend certain sections of the community.
I think they ended up calling it a seasonal card.
A good percentage of children don`t know who was born on 25th Dec. anyway.(they think it`s Santa Claus`s birthday)
Supermarkets are using the non Christian excuse for opening on Christmas day and will eventually get their way with 24 hour opening on Sundays.
Airline`s fly on Christmas Day so why not megabus.
The country has got what it deserves.
Come to Scotland - had that for years and great it is.0 -

Does that count for all employers then?
I work for the Ambulance Service and would love to have Christmas off to spend with my family but instead I'm working from Christmas Eve through 'til the 27th, doing 12 hour day shifts. I don't get paid any extra as it's all rostered shifts and the only bonus is that I'll get 15 hours time off in lieu for working it which other members off staff will also get even if they're not working!!0
