Just been looking round the megabus website and see they are going to run services on Christmas day this year.
Is there really any need to run services on Christmas day? i feel sorry for the poor drivers that will have to work and sit on a coach all day on christmas day but bet they will be paid a bit to work it.

You do realise that not everyone enjoys Christmas. There are people out there without families etc who may spend the whole day at home thus will be estatic to earn a packet to work a day which may depress them.
If there is the demand for a service then I think companies are happy to offer the service and I would imagine very few employers will force people to work xmas day.0 -
RichShot, I bet you didn't find many £1.00 tickets though. :rolleyes:0

Well why not.
Half the country are not Christians anyway, so they can drive the buses as it`s not a holiday for them.(although they treat it as such)
Even T Blair a couple of years ago didn`t send a Christmas card because it might offend certain sections of the community.
I think they ended up calling it a seasonal card.
A good percentage of children don`t know who was born on 25th Dec. anyway.(they think it`s Santa Claus`s birthday)
Supermarkets are using the non Christian excuse for opening on Christmas day and will eventually get their way with 24 hour opening on Sundays.
Airline`s fly on Christmas Day so why not megabus.
The country has got what it deserves.0 -
They're probably getting paid double, hell, I'd do it for double time on Xmas day, it doesn't mean much to me anyway lol0

Stagecoach only pay time and a quarter on bank holidays, all other overtime is flat rate. so if they can get mugs to work for time and a quarter for Christmas day then they deserve all they get0

£30 one way for a journey they normally charge £1 for.0

My Dad remembers post on Christmas day, regular bus services and even football right up until the late 1970's. Only since then has it really become crazy!
We have a bus service in Glasgow on Christmas every hour past my door, used to be hourly right through the night every day, but latterly been cut to weekends. Edinburgh has a bus service too.
I always laughed at how commercially services in Glasgow and Edinburgh could run, but in London where the market is regulated with 7 million people, a good number who are not Christian either the buses are next to nothing on Christmas.
If you don't have Children I never really understood the fuss on Christmas. It is for kids, New Year is the one for grown ups. :beer:0 -

Not sure about glasgow but in edinburgh very few buses run. Its a core service connecting the suburbs and outlying rural towns with the city centre.
These are fully subsidised by the local authorities and free to use. None of the fully commercial services run.0 -
