    Posties’ choice: modernisation or privatisation

Doubting the accuracy of these numbers, the union ordered a random manual count to be undertaken over a two-week period in a number of offices across the region. Our office was one of them. On average, those boxes which the Royal Mail claims contain only 150 letters, actually carry 267 items of mail. This, then, explains how the Royal Mail can say that the figures are down, although every postman knows that volume is up. The figures are down all right, but only because they have been manipulated.
  • If these posties are not happy with their jobs why don't they go out and get another.

You don't see Tesco or Asda staff going on strike because they are asked to do more work.

Plenty of people about who would quite happily take the position of them, me included.

They should think them selves lucky they have a job.

I'm not surprised the unions/possible strikers are not getting much support from the public when you get reports like on tonights ITV News at Ten that reported on the top 2 reasons for the strike.

ITV - notoriously anti-union; that's like having the Morning Star report on the striking posties' demands......

If I there was an opposite to "thanks" I could click for this, I'd be clicking it for the rest of the day.

You're happy to bend over and take it from your boss daily without being man enough to do something about it? Fine - it's your bottom; sit on it as you please. But don't slag others for getting together and doing something to save their job.....

Why not go to the post office for a job then? Or I know the courier companies around here are crying out for decent drivers!!
  • whilst I have sympathies for the posties the fact remains that we are in a recession, a LOT of people have lost their jobs/had the hours cut/had their work redefined.

I just can't understand why the post office staff think they are different to the rest of the workforce.

This stuck-in-the-70s attitude to change will be the death of them, I can't see many businesses trusting the post office with their mail after this latest round of strikes has run it's course.

    Madness!

Like I said if they don't like it go and get another job. You will have no sympathy from me or thousands of other businesses. You are getting paid to do a job...do it.

The union sprouts crap. I'm entitled to my opinion.

Asda and Tesco staff get paid for the overtime they have to work. Posties often work a couple of hours each day more than they're contracted to, and don't get paid any extra for those hours.

    Apply then.
