Love the storys of the birds.

We went to the bird shop today (where we have pre-registered our interest in the Senegal) - Must admit we were considering an african grey too - the ones their today where top - just 13 weeks old but already starting to talk and whistle.

Will the Senegal not be good at talking really?!

Well it all depends what effort you put into teaching them ... but they are acknowledged as being more of a noise mimic (ie household noises and whistling) than talking. They can sound a bit like a robot and "tinny" though when they do talk. I've only known a few but they haven't been very clear in everything they learned to say, although some words they said were really clear.

The Greys are known for being the best talkers in the parrot world though ... but even with them, you can get some that just won't talk or may end up saying only a handful of words ...the Guinness Book of Records states one African Grey called Prudle (what a name!!) had a vocabulary of over 1,000 words!!!

Been looking at them again on Sunday. Going to have to get hold of one, as they always see very nippy. Im sure once we have had hold of one, then it will help make our decision easier.

£695 too which I dont think is too bad for hand-reared?

Yorkie - is £695 a good price?

We have seen a few cages we like too for between £100-£150 on ebay, which again seems reasonable?
