Sheilas Wheels bad reviews

My car insurance is up for renewal so I started trawling the comparison sites and found Sheilas Wheels came up much cheaper than my existing insurer (Tesco). I was delighted to discover that there is £45 cashback through Quidco too). I was just about to commit when it occurred to me to check reviews, and lo and behold, they are dreadful

so it's back to the drawing board. Shame!
(I was with Swiftcover before, also an online company, and they were pretty awful too, so maybe I should avoid this sort of insurance.

Had a look too, but would be difficult to know who to recommend.....
There are not many insurers with a good number of positive reviews, so not spoilt for choice.
I'm with Tesco and their rating is poor too0 -
I had good claims service from Lloyds TSB.
However there was no dispute about liability, so I guess it was fairly easy.
I believe I got £120 on that policy but don't know what they offer now.
Again I don't think their reviews in general were that favourable.
The problem is with car insurance that often liability is unclear and sometimes there is a lack of witnesses.
It can cost a lot to go to court compared with teh costs of settling.
Hence insurers often settle 50/50.
This keeps costs down but can be disastifying for anyone wanting a "fair" outcome.
Everyone thinks they are right, so there is almost certain to be some level of dissatisfction in this case.0 -
Sheilas wheels are fine as are the other companies in the same group.
The problem with review sites is that you always get negative people responding rarely positive. Indeed, read some of those negative reviews that only gave one star and its because they couldnt beat the price. Nothing to do with claims or service.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Yes I noticed that Tesco (my current insurer) also had poor reviews though I've found them fine so far - though not made a claim. And I take the point that review sites do tend to attract the disgruntled.... I'll give it a bit more thought and research before I decide.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0

I made the mistake of re-newing with Sheilas wheels.
In Jan 2010 a young chap ran into the back of my Mini, with minimal damage and he offered to put the damage right by way of a respay to the back bumper which he did and we were both happy. No claim on either insurance but I did inform my then insurers Saga.
Saga told Sheilas Wheels there had been a 'NO FAULT CLAIM' and Sheilas Wheels sent me a letter charging me extra on my premium even though no claim was ever made and it was for information only, saying I WAS A RISK. Yes of course I do have a say in who runs into the back of me. Despite loads of phone calls and Saga downgrading my report from an accident to an incident, Sheilas Wheels still charged me and said if I didn't pay the extra they would cancel my policy.
I have been driving for 38 years and only had on accident in all that time that was 'partly' my fault and even then is was only minor,
All this went on of course after the time allowed to cancel, as they delayed writing to me until then.
Its a disgrace how insurance companies treat us and how they are allowed to get away with this. I will make it my duty to let everyone know about this and never never insure with them, or Esure who are their underwriters.0 -

Statisically, they are right. People who have an accident, whether they are at fault or not, are more likely to have another one in the short term.Yes of course I do have a say in who runs into the back of me.
Maybe you do. maybe you brake too late and too heavy. Remember insurance is not about you individually but you in a pot of thousands of others. Its a disgrace how insurance companies treat us and how they are allowed to get away with this.
Why is it a disgrace? Shiela's wheels (and associated companies in that group) are well known for cherry picking and pricing even the smallest risks. They have every right to choose their prices just as any other business does. You have every right to shop around and choose who you buy from.I will make it my duty to let everyone know about this and never never insure with them, or Esure who are their underwriters.
You better add plenty of others to your list as well then as whilst not all penalise on no-fault claims, it is quite common.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If you do a google you can find a up to date Which survey which rates some car insurers on service and their policy terms and conditions. As lots of car insurers have different brands under their stable you can have a look at the survey then have a look at the "About us" details on the website of the insurer you want to go with.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Some view them all as claims whilst others view them as what they are.
This means the onus is on you to do your research before you take out a policy with them.
Remember the cheapest policy brought up by a price comparison site or shopping around is not always the best one for you.
So always read the small print and ask the customer service questions before taking the policy out.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I bought insurance from these people in February.
Sent off a copy of my licence and the NCD they asked for....
Next thing I know, the insurance has been cancelled because the NCD paper wasn't what they wanted, no phone call, no "send in something else" just a letter through the post saying it's been cancelled 6 days ago!
So I'd been riding around for almost a week without insurance!
Bunch of idiots!
Not only that, but they charged me £60 for the cancellation!
Needless to say, I went elsewhere.0
