I got one of these earlier this year,£6 from Sainsburys. Was looking forward to my fresh mushrooms daily. Didn't get a single thing. Useless. Would not bother again but I saw some kits in Homebase a few weeks back.

  • After starting off my kit in the airing cupboard, misting it daily for a few weeks, then dropping into a corner on my cold kitchen floor where it was forgotten about for a while... I have loads of gigantic mushrooms. After my disasters in the garden this year, I at least now know Im not cursed to be unable to grow anything.. Woo hoo!

gardenjenny - Congratulations. I think you must be the first person I've ever heard of whohas actually bought one of these kits and actually produced mushrooms from it!
  • They were preparing the sort you plug into logs on the River Cottage programme the other day, and the bit that interested me was, the guy said it takes a long time before any mushrooms start to show. Something like 6-8 months or more.

I've had several goes with them, Primrose and always got mushrooms. But never enough to justify the cost and trouble.

I brought a mushroom kit box from Homebase last year and never got around to using it ......... do you think it would be ok to still use ??

It won't cost you anything to try.
