Unsolicited text from 07881 432040

Just had an unsolicited text from 07881 432040 today reading:

FREEMSG: Our records indicate you may be entitled to 3750 pounds for the Accident you had. To claim for free reply with YES to this msg. To opt out text STOP

I'm going to find out who this company is (nothing comes up on Googling), and get my number removed from their database. I'll post more as I find it.

Stay careful out there, peeps. :)

Interesting to read this, as my husband got an unsolicited call from an accidents company the other week. They said they'd heard he'd had an accident in his car and did he want to pursue a claim. The 'accident' was over 2 years ago, it involved someone reversing into his car. No-one was hurt, there were no witnesses and the insurance company settled on equal blame. There was a dent to my husband's car door. We couldn't believe his details had been sold on to an accident company for such a piffling little bump. As far as we were concerned, it's over & dealt with. All I can say is these companies must be desperate for business.

I think they're also using a computerised gateway to send the texts - I've also alerted Vodafone, and I hope that they can do something. I bet it's a number with a Pay as you go SIM card as well.

I've texted STOP to their number, so hopefully they will comply, but I might text them back with YES so I can find out who the hell they are.
  • oh dear! I think texting 'stop' is exactly what they want you to do!! By texting them they then have your number in the 'call' format and other info that is transmitted by text. It's alot like the phone lines scam that call you and it ends up costing you like 20 quid a minute! Although its annoying, its often best to just delete and ignore, unless you're getting several a day.

Ive had these texts too. I did have a car accident and so at first thought it was something to do with that though I could not understand how they would have my details. I have not sent the "stop" message as I too agree that this will alert who ever it is that the number they are texting is valid. Ive had about 10 messages in total and have not replied to any. Nothing received for about a month now.

Apparantly some of these companies that cold call / text get the details of who has had claims and their contact numbers from Insurance Comparison sites. You enter in that you had a non fault accident and the website sells this information to a claims management company who then contact you!

Most people tend to enter in a ficticious tele number eg 01234 567890

I've had a couple of these on my works issued mobile phone (Vodaphone) - they are probably generating numbers randomly and hoping someone'll get back to them when they will no doubt find some way to charge you for the pleasure.

I also got an identical text message offering an identical amount of compensation... (I had a car accident over a year ago when someone ran into me). I just ignored it.

Coincidentally, I had been getting car insurance quotes, and even though it was a non blame accident, I still have to put it down when getting insurance quotes...

Could it be someone accessing this information who is subsequently texting people who have listed a car accident on their insurance quote?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Okay, the company's name is CCS (Consumer Credit Services according to "John" on the call today), and there is a "national database" that they use.

I did tell him my number's TPS-registered, and they should be screening their database against the TPS before they start calling/texting. I hope to hear back from Vodafone soon and I can pass this on.

I think they're using the initials CCS to be confused with the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS).

It is listed on this website, as a "suspicious caller"

There isn't a "national database", either.
