Sorry to hear about your cat Amos, but I think you made the right decision! I'd have done exactly the same in your situation (and kind of am, I'd be debt free a lot sooner if one of mine wasn't costing £60 a month in medication, on top of seeing the vet every 3 months at £50 a pop! But I don't begrudge her a penny of it, I've had her 17 years and she is most definitely worth it!)
At least you are a lot closer to being debt free than you were, and thank god you had the cash to pay for the treatment, rather than adding to your debt!Highest Debt (Sept 04) -> £41,300Debt Free - August 2006!!

~Amos its so nice to hear from you again. Your cat is so beautiful and I'm glad youve done the right thing by him. You will get there in the end and at least we will have your company for a while again. Look after your moggy. Good luck. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Course you have done the right thing, dare I say it, being debt free aint the be all and end all! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Good to see you back Amos!
Thank goodness you were around to nurture that poor little puss cat. The people who did that horrendous stuff to your cat - well it doesn't bare thinking about...
Onwards and upwards anyway Amos and as Chortle said at least you had the money available to you to pay for the treatment and you weren't adding to the debts.

Firstly a HUGE well done
And secondly then i would have done exactly the same as you if it were my catOne of mine got hit by a car about 2 years ago and I thank my lucky stars he was insured as £1500 down the line it could have hurt me a lot too :S
I would have paid though... no matter what the debt implications... Now have a dog as well as the two cats and they cost me just over £20 a month to insure to the tune of £6000 per condition no time limitationI just hate the fact that once the pets are over 8 years they seem to become nearly un-insurable! GRRRRRR
Anyway another month or two is not really that long to be honest and I think you will know it was right every time you look at the Moggie and know what a difference you have made to his life.DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

HUGE WELL DONE! I would do exactly the same with my cats, no contest.
WELL DONE YOU :T :T :TNew year, no debt! Debt free date - 02/01/07 :j :j :j0 -
Thank you everybody for such lovely support and kind comments. I'm glad everyone agrees that it was the right thing to do, I was scared someone was gonna say "it's only a cat" or something which would have been pretty blah
Anyhoo, I've calculated I just need to work 7 extra weeks to be 100% debt free, and I've done 2.5 so far, so about 4 left and then it'll be debt-free on paper
Even when I am totally debt free I'm still not gonna leave you guys, I feel awful even for dissapearing for a couple of weeks while I was trying to sort everything out and cope, but I've got my head up high now as I'm surrounded by the coolest people on Earth

Congrats on getting so far - and doing the right thing by your pet. You have the finishing line in sight and your have your conscience intact at the same time. I don't have any debt but I do like reading these threads and marvelling at the human spirit and sheer willpower of the posters - and trying to help when I can - although in fairness I don't really contribute that much. One thing that is clear on this site -There is no "I" in TEAM and everyone is there for everyone else - makes you glad to be alive doesn't it! Well Done Again - and your !!!!! cat is GORGEOUS XX0
