  • Yay Amos! That's such good news.

It's a bewildering feeling suddenly being clear. I can't quite get my head round it either (although each month's spare cash is GRATEFULLY saved!)

Good luck with all that litigation - you're braver than me!

    Hey folks,

Thank you all for your kindest words and comments, they mean so much to me so deeply it's very much appreciated. Those who got overly emotional about it - maybe a little extreme but I'm sure your debt free day will be even better :)

As you may have noticed I've not been around since shortly after becoming debt free. It seems as though the equilibrium of life has been tilted slightly against me since pretty much the next day.

I became debt free and I spent a hundred quid or so buying random pointless crap to celebrate (I had other money coming in from income soon after so it was like a short-term loan) and everything was going great.

Unfortunately I got home one day shortly after and found that one of my cats appeared to have a broken leg or something so was rushed to the vets and it turns out that actually he was just in a fight and his leg had become infected and swollen which is why he was walking on just the other three. So fairly good news in a way, until the vet also found a strange lump inside the leg. As there was no puncture wound in that part of the leg and the lump appeared to have grown inside some muscle it was suspected it may be cancer.

So I was forced to make a decision at that point whether to become totally debt free there and then or to use the money I had to pay for his treatment and work for a bit to earn extra money and delay my debt free date.

    I chose my pet.

Unfortunately he was adopted as a stray when he was about 8 years old (and I can't get insurance) and in bad shape and had been horribly abused but has since been living a very enjoyable life and I've fixed him up well, so I couldn't just say tough luck, I had to get him sorted out. When I found him he had burnt with cigarettes, cut, kicked and beaten and was actually painted yellow down one side with masonary paint (he's an all-white cat). It took me three days to painstakingly cut away all his fur. He spent quite a while trying to lick the paint off his fur to no avail and the chemicals damaged his nervous system somewhat so he's got twitching problems and is generally a bit special, but I've sorted all that out and usually pay for an annual course of steroid injections to calm down the twitching. So yeah, sorry to go on about how crap his life has been, but I promise him I would look after him and take care of him and he gives unconditional love to our whole family and brings so much laugher and happiness, so what was I supposed to do? There's no contest really.

So the vets bank is more happy than mine is right now and it'll be another month (and maybe two) before I'm totally debt free (it didn't take all my litigation proceeds to pay for it all) but I have more time with my lazy lump, and he has more time to just be himself.

Sorry I've not been on for so long, other problems too as they always come in threes, but some debt paid off and I have everything under control, it's just a minor setback but I should be back on here a lot more now things are under control. I hope y'all want me back :)

Ok, that's made me overly emotional.

I completely agree with your decision - well it wasn't really a decision was it? It just had to be done. He's so cute!
