rogerramjet wrote:I had a rep from 3 contact me the other day (contract up in a few months) I had a conversation wiht them about unlocking and the fact they will only give the code in month 11 for £15 and if you want it earlier it will cost more.
They were adament that the lenght of contract was irrelevant and you could get it unlocked for £15 at any period of your contract.
Seems like there is a lot of different people working for 3 with a lot of different opinions...maybe 3 should issue a memo
Thanks for your reply..
Did you get your phone directly from 3 or through a retailer?0 -

let me tell all my experience..........
Well i had a chat with the 3 customer service today to unlock my nokia 6630 as my contract ends today......first they said the same thing that as u have bought the mobile phone from a online dealer and not from 3 directly, so we cant provide u the codes...u should talk with the dealer for the codes. than i said"these are utter rubbish that u r speaking. how can a dealer giv the codes when i am paying 3 every month......the guy told me that thats the policy and we cannot give u the codes.than i told him that 1 month back i had emailed you customer service and than they called me back and advise me that once u r in the 11 month of ur contract just giv a call and we will provide u the codes for 15 pounds.......so now i am calling back and so giv me the codes....the customer service guy told me to wait for sometime so that he can confirm it and so i was in hold for a few mins.....after about 2-3 mins he came on line and told me that we will giv u the codes but u have to pay now........so i payed over the phone and he told me that someone will contact u in 15days and advise u how to unlock the phone....he took an alternative number also.......well that was my experience today but at last i was able to persuade them.....it was a real headache of around 15 mins....
aneways i think one can try this out and get the codes........
there is no policy as such..........or one can try calling the 0870 number....they are more helpfull...........
all the best
cheers0 -
thanks hoffy..which 0870 number are you referring to? i think i should try calling again as i havent had any luck via the email route..
so did you get it unlocked then? how much did they charge you?
would you advice be to be firm with them?being as polite as possible?0 -
Be firm and polite......just tell them that you have been advised before that you should give a call on the 11 month of your contract and get the unlocking codes.....and they should give you as u have paid 3 through out your contract and not to the dealer.....just be firm and polite in your answers and dont listen to them.....i paid 15 pounds for the unlocking codes and than they took my alternative number so that one of their executives will give me a call back within 15 days and advise me how to unlock my Nokia phone......
about the 0870 number i dont remember it.........maybe u can check in their website.........i saw the number in one of the threads in this forum................i will try to find it..........
hope this helps you...........

hi hoffy,
ive left you a pm regarding this..
thanks0 -
i have just spent 45 minutes wasting my time talking to a "supervisor" to a ahmed who was the customer service agent. what can i say?
the situation is stiill the same, he gave me the "reason" that i bought te phone from a thrid party dealer.
i mentioned hoffys case. he said that hoffy may have purchased a differnt dealer from me. which may have been able to provide the code..ermm not because i said hoffy was contacted by a three supervisor and managed to obtain the code for his 6630
the supervisor then asid i should give the agent who i bought it from a call again..i really feel like i am being pushed away, getting quite fustrated now.
i said to te supervisor" are you saying that as a consumer, i should have KNOWN this was going to be the situation and purchased from you in the first place, so i could have obtained an unlock code?" he replied, " i am not making that statement"..its up to me where i buy my phone. and then he mentioned something about CPW maybe able to offer a cashback offer and how that may have influenced my decision to buy from there..ermm yes because i could get a better deal from them. so i said" are you saying that i should pay a full £35 a month, and buy from you direct even though i can get a beter deal eslewhere?" he replied with " i wouldnt like to make that statement sir"
seems like i was more knowledgable that him., i then went onto mention the phones having bb5 technology, which he didnt understand.
i said to him that since the 6630 the situation was that you had to call the provider to unlock these phones. his line was " im not aware what you are talking about sir, but i assure you that if we could unlock it for you we would."
any advice as to what i should do now? apart from throw the phone in the bin?0 -
hi fatboy2002,
sounds like you're at your wit's ends...perhaps you could try emailing executive.office@three.co.uk and make it FAO Bob Fuller (3's CEO) explaining your situation + problems you've faced/been given with HIS customer services
i haven't emailed them RE: a problem like yours, but i've emailed RE: persistent billing issues that were no fault of mine, and I'm glad to say they were all resolved eventually. hope they're as effective for you as they were for me...0 -
thanks for your input skip2mylou
i have fired off an email to executive.office@three.,co.uk but not FAO bob fullers, so i might resend it again..
thanks again..0
