Three wont unlock my 6680 as i didnt buy it "direct"

hi peeps,

i am in my last month of my three contract, so month 11 out of 12. i rang up last week to obtain my unlock code for my nokia 6680, expecting to may the £15 for it.

ive just received a call from a three customer service guy from india, he said i couldnt have iut unlocked as the phone was not purchased "direct" from three ( i purchased it from onestopphoneshop)

he line was " you will have to contact OSPS, as you got the phone from there"

he wasnt really helpful at all..i felt like he didnt have a clue, i did get quite irate at him after being polite at the start, he was not listening to a word i was saying.

i did ring OSPS, and like i guessed, they cant do anything. only three can unlock...

so what do i do now? really miffed about this. shall i go into a three store? are they staff there any more knowledgable than the staff at india?(i know its not hard..)

thanks guys..sorry if i went off on a bit of a rant..just sure i read some other people got their 6680/6630s unlocked via their network providers..

We all buy from dealers!!! i bought my 6630 from dialaphone and paid 3 £15 and got an unlock code!!!

send an email to the customer service. usually they respond with someone intelligent in a day or so

fatboy2002, the guy is speaking nonsense. It doesnt matter where you buy it from, you from it on a new contract in UK so they should unlock it. Try speaking to someone else from 3.

Do 3 phones have to be unlocked by 3? I've just finished a 3 contract and am giving my LG8130 to a friend. I had just assumed he'd be able to get it unlocked locally, will I have to phone 3 instead? If so do I have to send them the phone and how much do they charge?

Nokia 6630/6680 are the problem phones which need to be unlocked by 3 the rest can be done "locally".

It's all well and good unlocking it, but how do you get the crap 3 software off the phone?

I think mine came unlocked, as it was a refurbished model.

mm- i will email them and see what results i get..do you think i would get further by being more proactive in this situation and heading down to my local store?

i ll still email 3 to see waht response i get, hopefully an inteligent one.

the 6680 maybe a "problem" phone, but iam with in my right to have it unlocked right? i mean ive paid my 11/12 months line rental. so the company has got its subsidy back, unless someone corrects me.

I was wondering if you got around this problem since 3 won't unlock my Nkia 6630 since I bought it from CPW!

I actually sent them an email as suggested above, and I received a call from thier Bangalore C/S saying that they could not unlock it because it was not bought from 3 direct! What a load of rubbish!

I had a rep from 3 contact me the other day (contract up in a few months) I had a conversation wiht them about unlocking and the fact they will only give the code in month 11 for £15 and if you want it earlier it will cost more.

They were adament that the lenght of contract was irrelevant and you could get it unlocked for £15 at any period of your contract.

Seems like there is a lot of different people working for 3 with a lot of different opinions...maybe 3 should issue a memo
