Buying sofa from DFS

We have taken delivery of a leather suite from DFS, admittedly it was just about the most expensive suite in the store and it is totally unsuitable for kids being fully aniline. Since we have had the sofa we have not had a tv dinner, my husband and I were terrible for sitting on the sofa trays on laps. Not any more always eat dinner at the kitchen table now.

My point however is this, DFS are basically a finance company. The sofa we chose had trimmings I didn't like and we were able to have it made without. Our old suite was from an old established furniture company called Lincoln Suites, they were bought out by DFS. Yes they have a constant sale on but they basically allow people to finance the sofa at an affordable monthly price.
    £2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far

+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.

    Terramundi weighs 8lb 5oz

My sofa was too big, it was made in 2 halves, when they put it in the house they just connected it together, great...

we had to have the back window of the lounge taken out and the sofa bought in through there as there was no way the sofa was going to bend round through the door from the hall into the lounge
    'Normal' is a dryer setting.

Was assured by CS that the sofa will definetely go through the door as the arms come apart. We shall see. Not keen on DFS, but I prefer to buy a sofa I can try in the shop.

My sofa wouldn't fit through my door when I moved house so I removed the glass from the dining room window and got it in that way. If you have double glazing then this is really easy to do

this is precisely whats wrong with DFS

the arms shouldnt come off, they are supposed to be part of the complete frame
wherever they attach to the rest of the frame is going to be a weak point

some info on what frames should be like:

Yes, well ? how much for a sofa from DFS and how much for one from Wesley-Barrell or Multiyork ?

You are NOT comparing like with like - have a look at the prices !

i used them as examples, as they actually provide information on their websites as to how they make their frames
i didnt say you had to buy from them.

& of course theyre not like for like, a properly constructed sofa is going to outlast a DFS one by years

strangely enough, there dosnt seem to be any info on the DFS site about their frames, springs or anything

You don't get much info from Ford/Honda/Nissan about how their cars are built - that doesn't make them bad value for money compared to a Merc.
If anything they may actually be better value !
(Having worked in the Mercedes HQ - I can say that with some conviction !!!)
  • I am a manufacturers agent and I sell sofas to UK retailers on behalf of the manufacturers all over the country.

Here is my advice; steer clear of ALL the major sofa companies. Go to a family run business that is local who will care about their reputation.

If anyone would like any further info then please just ask.

    Dan.
